They aren't the best looking, but depending on the lot, are the only practical solution.
Worse is all the horrible country French side loads where the builder skimped on the concrete making them impractical to use.

There are few garages in my neighborhood, mainly people park on the street. Older homes, built in the 30's, 40's. It's fine with me. When I had a garage, I just kept my goat in it.

Depending on the house, I may actually prefer street parking than a front faced garage.
There aren't many garages here.

Suicide rates actually triple when compared to similar neighborhoods with more reasonable garage configurations.

You see more garages here versus carports.
Having a garage is a must for us because we like the extra storage space for all of our outdoor gear. Also, since we both have hardtop jeeps, it's necessary to store the hardtop when we want them off our jeep. House we rent now has a 2 car garage. It would fit both our jeeps but not leave much room for anything else. So I park in the driveway and husband parks in the garage.

Garages are a must up here in the North. No one wants to clean of snow and scrape ice of windows. Mine is big enough for a SUV, Camry fridge, and lawn equipment. Although I haven't done yard work in years. That's what landscapers are for.

Front door isn't far at all from the driveway, really not a big deal to park there at all
