A dude I went to high school with wrote letters to murderers who were in jail as a weird hobby/fetish of sorts. I recall that girls murderer wrote him back a ton and sent drawings ect. The dude was obviously very lonely.

Chapman believed that he was John Lennon at times. He played Lennon's music and was preoccupied with John's career, particularly comments he made regarding Jesus Christ during the Beatle years.
Chapman flew to NYC to kill Lennon, then flew to Atlanta to secure hollow point bullets before returning to NYC to murder the former Beatle.
He went around Manhattan asking others how to find John and essentially camped out in front of the Dakota.
This barely scratches the surface regarding Mark David Chapman's twisted interest in John Lennon.
I would say that Mark David Chapman was absolutely stalking and extremely obsessed with John Lennon by every definition of the word.

CA enacted new stalker laws because of this tragedy
Very sad. I happened to be in LA when that happened visiting a friend who lived a few streets from the scene. She was headed for stardom. Her murder changed a lot of privacy laws as the psycho was able to find her address.
