Which is better, EZ Tag or TX Tag? And why?

Most stuff is EZ tag. I think 99 is the only thing that is TX tag and it's reciprocal. Only time you run into an issue is that if you have an EZ tag, you can't use the plate recognition feature on a TX tag toll road. For example if your sticker fell off or malfunctioned, it will not recognize your plates and hit your account. You would get a fine. But again, most stuff is EZ tag.

From what I've heard, EZ Tag is going to be recognized in other states, if it hasn't already. I'd doubt that "TX Tag" is going to be recognized anywhere but in their own little world.

General Texas use the two are mostly interchangeable

Especially the fact you are talking about Houston.

I personally went with TXTag in DFW because I can go on any EZTag road, but it also lets me pay DFW airport parking fares and it has agreements with some Out of state toll tags, which as I understand EZTag does not do either.

With TX Tag there is no activation fee or minimum balance. I very rarely use the toll roads so if I didn't already have EZ Tag I would do TX Tag instead.

Actually the opposite as if now.

I’m sure EZTag will get on the bandwagon but to act like they are the leader as opposed to the follower in that regard is just wrong.

TXTag has had interoperability agreements for years now, and they are actively working on adding more.

You can use Tx Tag on all HCTRA roads... so that would be the one I think would be best if you were starting new.

I've never been on 99 but doesn't the EZ tag work on 99?

Yes it does. EZ and TX Tag are interchangeable within Texas.

ETA: I went with EZ tag for no real reason other than I'm in Houston and that's the first one I thought of when I moved here.

TX tag. I have both, and find the TX tag easier, and more informative.

Meanwhile...someone in Louisiana is waiting for the Causeway and Leeville Bridge to have interoperability.

Yes, it does. EZ Tag has an agreement with TX Tag and the bill is passed through.

So if I’m reading this right, if I get a TX Tag it will also work in EZ Tag lanes... correct?

I’ll be living about 15 minutes from where I work, but if I don’t take the toll road that 15 minutes can easily become 45 or more with all of the traffic, etc.

LOL you’re so clueless it’s cute. You don’t understand how this whole thing works huh? And they wonder why most of La is so against infrastructure progress.

I like the implications of this thread.

Eta
I have an ez tag, mostly because I had never heard of TX tag when I moved here and all the roads I had to travel specified ez tag.

EZ Pass is used all over in the Northeast like NJ, PA, NY, and also VA. Don’t know if it’s the same thing as EZ Tag
