Wouldn’t you think the greatest city would be great to live in and visit?

Outsider take -

Dallas is much more manicured and aesthetically pleasing than Houston. Climate is better too. Sports are a draw I think. Houston probably a very slight edge on economy/jobs (both great). Houston has the edge in food. Houston people are nicer. Dallas people less trashy.

No -- I live by the motto "never argue with an idiot, they'll bring down to their level and beat you with experience"

Yeah, if you like Lake Charles, shitty beaches, or dirt hills, I guess. Austin? Woopdeedoo.

Traffic, humidity, flat terrain filled with ugly strip centers and billboards. Ugly city with traffic 30 miles from downtown. Speaking over 120 languages is not a plus in what should be an English first/ English only society.

I live here. It’s great. Don’t move here, we don’t need any more people.

Only thing I would disagree with. Being that energy dependent is not something I'd want. Houston is a bit diversified, but Dallas is extremely diversified with more and more big finance moving in.

Crime rate low compared to other mega-cities. Even with influx of Katrinas

Houston has been the better market for other professions though, I believe (high end consulting, law). I think it's a practical wash if you're choosing but I'm trying to be as fair as possible.

For oil and gas therefore if O&G slows down so does that work.

I'm not shitting on the Houston economy at all, it's obviously very good, but it's just more susceptible to bigger swings therefore loss of population and other problems.

Doesn't check out.

Other than that you gave me reasons on why Houston is better than Dallas.

I'm giving you pros/cons for both. And sure it does. Houston has more trashy people, but they're less pretentious. Dallas has fewer trashy people, but they're strivers.

Speaking 145 languages, Houston’s metropolitan area is the most diverse in the country.

You consider this a good thing? Do these people all bring in unique perspectives?

Due in no small part to this, more Houstonians eat out than any other city’s residents.

Houston has legit good restaurants. But so does New York, San Francisco, and Chicago.

Houston has the 5th tallest skyline in North America

So not the greatest? 5th greatest?

quote:

It has the big 3 professional sports franchises along with an MLS team.

There are other cities with more professional franchises.

One of the busiest ports in the country, hub of aeospace operations, the “Wall Street” of the energy industry, etcetera.

The real Wall Street is in NYC. There's also busy trading floors in Chicago and San Francisco.

Let me help you - talk more about Houston (and Texas's) tax policy and less about their amenities.

Houston and Dallas are two of the most uninteresting cities I can think of.

Houston also has the largest medical industry in the world.

Is it so hard to understand?

Who cares if a city is “most diverse”?
