New Orleans says

Nola is a city for a bygone era, it’s an antique piece. It’s an economic backwater in an increasingly, economically insignificant state.

I lived there. The cultures that I love; Saints, Cajun, LSU and Nola don’t dominate the atmosphere there. That is why Houston culture sucks.

Half or more of Louisiana’s college educated folks live in htown!

Houston likely has more LSU grads than New Orleans at this point

Nola is still a tremendously culturally significant place. It's pretty bad in nearly every other category though

Houston is a fun city. I always enjoy my time there . I've just never come across anything that I have to go to Houston to do. Like no one says "Bruh you have to go do______ in Houston."

Houston is a great place to live and work but it’s not a destination city...I have to agree, generally, that it’s not a cultural capital but it’s got a robust museum and theatre culture as well as a growing restaurant scene...you just have to drive all over town.

It’s stuck in the past...I love it but it’s not an engine driving the future.

Let's review.

Houston has one of the country's top theater districts, world-renowned museums, the best medical district in the world, a top-notch zoo and one of the country's finest universities.

Did I miss anything? Oh yeah, we don't puke in the street or speak Yat.

It's not driving the future in regards to industry and job creation. It does remain a cultural hub re: food and music. It's also an extremely diverse city which lends itself to cultural innovation.

Of the things you mentioned Cajun is the only thing relating to culture.

Houston, IMO, has the best food in the USA. One reason being its close proximity to Cajun country and awesome Tex-Mex food. Not to mention all the other worldly cuisines available.

Secondly, there is a HUGE LSU presence in Houston.

Thirdly, the Saints don’t have a national following. Hell, I grew up in North Louisiana and we got the Cowboys games instead of the Saints(and I hate Cowboys)

Finally, New Orleans has great food and Bourbon Street used to be fun, but a weekend in New Orleans is enough to last me a year....or two.

The food is moving out to other places and the music is just a continuous retread of the past. And the diversity comment is laughable. It’s a black city with some white burbs. It’s no comparison to Houston re cultural diversity.

If you define culture as "expensive things for rich people" then yes it's the capital of the south. You can spend a lot of money on nice things in the theater and museum districts.

Most people define culture as "uniqueness". What is unique about Houston?

San Antonio and Fort Worth are unique and have a culture.

By the way this isn't a knock on Houston. By being generic they can focus 100 percent on being a leading business city.

Yeah... an over abundance of loud, obnoxious, braggadocious arse hats who can’t understand why people don’t want to be around people like themselves, but are all too incapable of controlling themselves with even a smidget of humility.

New Orleans has the largest number of Hondurans outside of Honduras. New Orleans also has a large Vietnamese population. That's in addition to the chunk of Italian and Irish descendants living in and around New Orleans. Yes, it is majority black but even the black demographic varies from Creole to Island Creole, to West African, to more traditional African-American.

Yes Houston has a very diverse population as well. I never said otherwise. I just think you greatly over simplified NOLA

Most people are dumb.

Would you consider Las Vegas to be a cultural hotbed? It's certainly unique.
