HOUSTON — Search crews are still looking for the college student from the Houston area who went missing while returning home from Texas State University.
Family members tell CBS Austin that 21-year-old Jason Landry was reported missing early Monday after a car wreck on Salt Flat Road in a rural area about 10 minutes from downtown Luling.
quote:
Authorities reportedly found his Nissan Altima crashed and abandoned. It’s believed he was involved in an accident while on his way back to his home in the Sienna area of Missouri City — a suburb of Houston.
"All I know is my son was in a car crash, he walked away from that car crash, and he’s hurt and he’s alone and he’s out here,” Kent Landry, the young man’s father, told CBS. “And I just want my boy found.”
quote:
According to the family’s church, which has been active on Facebook, crews have now focused in on an area pond that scent dogs led them to. The pond is being drained and looked over by drone. As of late Friday morning, no further clues had been found, however.
quote:
Texas EquuSearch also posted an image of the missing man on its Facebook page. People have been searching area rivers, creeks and the land by horse and foot.
quote:
Texas DPS officials said they believe Jason was able to get out of his vehicle after the wreck, but it is unclear where he went after that. They do not at this time have any reason to believe foul play or alcohol were involved, CBS reported.
It’s also unknown why or how the student ended up on the backroad. His father speculated he may have gotten turned around while using a navigation app as the country roads are very dark with no street lights.
Multiple agencies are involved in the search. The 21-year-old is described as a white male who is just over six feet tall and weighs 170 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information about his disappearance can call the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office at 512-398-6777.

Blind reliance on technology can get you in trouble. Hopefully this isnt one of those cases.

I’ll just do this again

Based on the car he was driving and his looks, it was probably a drug deal that went bad. They robbed him, killed him and crashed his car.
People just dont randomly disappear.

I concur. Drug deal situation.

That's a two and a half hour drive, so I take it a 21-year-old college student wasn't making that drive for the first time and got "lost". Something is definitely fishy with it

I know this is an old thread, but some new info came out:

They were able to gain access to his phone so they got more of a timeline on him, which leads me to believe he wasn't "lost"
Also funny how they first used this picture in his articles:

Dec.13, 11:24 p.m. - Jason enters Luling, Texas on Highway 80. He stops using the Waze app and opens Snapchat. He passes through the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and East Austin Street, and that’s where Jason’s digital footprint stops. It’s believed he continued on East Austin to Spruce Street, which turns into Salt Flat Road.
quote:
Troopers who responded to the crash scene found Jason’s backpack, ball cap, toiletries and a tumbler with his dead betta fish in it on the road about 900 feet away. They say the backpack contained a small amount of marijuana, a laptop and gaming equipment.

So is this a drug thing? Hasn't he been missing awhile now?
Looks maybe this guy was starting school a little late?
So nothing happened in the car.
Dad is a pastor, so he wasn't raised in a broken home...that we know of.

New details have been released in the mysterious disappearance of Jason Landry, the 21-year-old Texas State student who has been missing since December 13, 2020.
Jason had just finished up his first semester at the university in San Marcos, Texas where he had been working toward being accepted into their prestigious Sound Recording Technology program.
quote:
The car was processed for any DNA or blood evidence, according to the release, but no evidence of blood was found inside the car, and there’s no evidence that Jason was heading to meet with someone in the Luling area.
So nothing happened in the car.
quote:
Kent, who is a pastor at Southminster Presbyterian Church in Missouri City said thousands of people are praying for Jason as they continue to try and figure out what happened to him.

So what are you trying to imply? Did he fake his death?
Posted on 2/3/21 at 10:54 pm to tiggerthetooth
He is probably in Mexico by now. Staged his own death

He's been gone for a month and a half now and just his app activity makes it seem very fishy. It's also damn hard to get lost on the route he had from there to his house

This is what I was thinking but how did he cross the border? Wouldn't it be easy to know if he passed through customs?

I dont know how things are today, and it's been a couple decades+ for me, but you used to be able to walk right into Mexico like you were going to the 7-11 to buy a pack of gum.
Can you not still cross over? It wouldnt surprise me if they changed all that

Look at his before in a suit picture and bum after picture and tell me if this is or isn’t about drugs.

I think some girl probably just dumped him and he’s going through a phase. I’m going through one right now. Has lasted about 14 years

Huh. I got married and went from that before to after. I haven’t had a haircut in more than 6 months.
