Open concept fricking sucks.
Tv too high
Big box houses that are built to the absolute limits so there’s the minimum required set backs. Looks so shitty.

I don't mean to throw shade, but have you tried blinds? Could mean curtains for neighbor views

He have a larger house built in the 70s. I am grateful we have resisted the urge to knock out walls over the years.

Houses without gutters
Builders charge extra for gutters. You just bought a $500k house. Spend the extra for gutters.

Mcmansions with a huge two-story foyer. Fricking waste of space.

I went from a 1978 house to a 2023 house and it pisses me off. 2023 house is bigger but feels WAY smaller due to 75% of the downstairs being one continuous giant room.

I just upgraded to a house built in the 70s, absolutely love it. Took some light updating, mostly paint, but it's almost 3k sf of enclosed house and another 1500 sf of covered patio and brick courtyard. Plus a workshop.
The house has zones, instead of one big open floor plan. And so much cabinetry, handmade, master crafted, solid wood. Not builder grade stuff.
Brick and wood floors...I love it so much more than a modern house.

I have an unhealthy hatred of painted brick.
Our home looks so much better painted than before. It’s a light grey by the way, not white.

TV over the fireplace. Low class look.

One sided-3 sided brick homes
I call them poser homes and there are entire sub divisions full of them here in Knoxville. The front facade is nicely bricked, but the other 3 sides have the cheapest trash grade vinyl siding. If you just casually drive down the street not paying attention, you might think it is a nicer neighborhood than it really is.

regarding front facing garages: My neighborhood platted long skinny lots. 50ft X 200ft deep is considered HUGE, most are 50X100 deep. You can not do a garage in the back without having a strange floor plan and also spending the rest of your life trying to back an SUV out of a narrow driveway for 100 feet while trying not to scrape your car on the side of the house and playing musical cars with your spouse and kids.
its not ideal, but unless you are going to buy and tear down your neighbor's house, its what you get.

Same, so many beautiful brick homes in my area have been painted white, it looks so sterile.

Painted interior brick isn't so bad, especially when you've got different style bricks.
But if it's uniform outside the natural brick gives it character
