From my perspective after working in the region for almost 15 years and spending time with people from each city, my winner is
Drum roll
Drum roll
Drum roll
Drum roll
Drum roll

Morgan City.

The reason being is that Morgan City has more eye appealing downtown. With the river and levee walls, it kind of has feel of a mini New Orleans. Morgan City also has more of a city feeling with more civic pride, than the other 2 which seem out of place. The way the government is setup, Houma stands for any place in Terrebonne Parish, and with its large shopping district being MLK which is not technically within the city proves that part. Also, the city part is dying in part. Downtown can be a ghost town at times.
Thibodaux is a little better as it has that college town feel, but to me Thibodaux is just means Nicholls which means downtown is just college bars and the rest is the seat of Parish and city government. It has some charm with older buildings makes charming to the eye at times. Also, Houma and Thibodaux lack transportation routes making traffic difficult at times, at least Morgan City has 90 that runs through it and not by it.

By no means is Morgan City a clear winner in charm, as it does have its issues with a declining industrial base. You can see how vacant it is in the eastern part of the city driving in on HWY 182. Another thing is that, Morgan City is the most unique as it has the most different features than the rest. Houma and Thibodaux some times gets mixed up for each other.

Not sure. I heard it closed but I could be wrong. It is a legit Cuban restaurant though.

It's open. They closed for a couple weeks in the fall but reopened shortly after.

Latin corner is legit. So is Castalano’s. The restaurant at the Atchafalaya golf course in Patterson isn’t bad either.

People aren't exactly moving to Houma

Not for O&G. Medical is still strong which contributes to the stability of the housing market. They may not be moving here in droves but the city isn't dying.

Medical is not "strong," it's just "there." It's no stronger or weaker than any other town of similar size.

Fact is more people are leaving than are moving in. Hence the description "dying." Young people especially are moving away as fast as they can.

That's over kill man. Every city that experiences a decrease in population is dying? C'mon.

That can only help the area. The kids need to get out of the bayou bubble imo

Truth. I have a bunch of family in MC, and I've really noticed the decline over the past 5-7 years.

Houma is a pretty crappy town but at least understands that. Thibodaux is a just as crappy as Houma town that's in deep pretentious denial about being a crappy town.

Simon Gruber is right. Nearby (6-9 mins south) is the Led Zeppelin Career Magnet Center in Lockport. Raceland was also recently e’en higher on the list, but DPM closed so it gets a bump down.

I can attest, the Led Zeppelin Career Magnet Center is badass!

MC has one of the best named festivals in the country, so that puts it over the top.

Houma by a wide margin. Better downtown, better bars, better retail, better restaurants, closer to Cocodrie, Dularge, and the Copasaw.
