And BRPD can write tickets to them.

Baton Rouge’s first known functioning scooter rental company is here.

GOAT Scooters was spotted in the parking lot across from the Dick’s Sporting Goods at the Mall of Louisiana. WAFB reached out to GOAT Scooters for comment, but was not able to reach them. The Downtown Development District (DDD) did tell WAFB they haven’t had contact with GOAT Scooters and were unfamiliar with the company. The city’s e-bike share partner, Gotcha, told WAFB it plans to add the scooter fleet it has in other markets to Baton Rouge eventually. So what’s the city going to do about it? This is what’s going on in other cities around the country and what Baton Rouge residents should be prepared for.

They can go nearly 20 mph and people can ride them on the right part of the road or on sidewalks for just $1 and about an additional 15 cents for every minute thereafter.

quote:

Plenty of reported accidents take place on these scooters.

The City of Baton Rouge does appear to be out in front of it though. A new law that takes effect July 1 says a parish or municipality can decide where the rental scooters can and can’t be used. Police are also able to issue riders tickets.

They are fun, but they are even worse at obeying traffic laws than your average bicyclist or Ford F-250 driver. They also tend to fall over if the rider are....let's say "top heavy".

The Lymes and Birds are all over the place here in ATL and in Charlotte.

They are fun and convenient but are dangerous and annoying if you're a pedestrian or driver.

Also tend to be abused by urban youths.

Why is baton rouge always at least 6 months behind the rest of the country?

Those will just get stolen and sold for scrap by culcha anyways.

Maybe it was the day they were putting it up. Or they were all stolen.

The mall seems like an odd location too. Who goes to that area without a vehicle other than the CATS riders?

They’re everywhere in Dallas, and while I absolutely loathed the rental bikes, the scooters are not as bad and have had way better management. They can also be convenient in a pinch, too. I kinda like them.

There's been hardly no notable accidents here in Dallas and we've had them for a year. I think only one death and it was someone being a dumbass riding at like 330 AM, I'm sure impaired.

This will last about as long as a snowball in hell.
The idea is off the charts on the stupidity level.

rode the heck out scooters in DC few weks back. the kids an I loved them. Lime, Bird, Urber, Lyft, Skip, Spin, were just some of the company's with scooters out there. 10 mph was standard and 15mph was found on a few. Those things scoot.

They are cheap but I found my account a few times way over charged. You can leave them just about anywhere when finished, but one company would not let me "END" the ride until I removed it from a no parking area. One scooter company let me "END" the ride and the other would not. It would not tell me where parking and no parking was.

Really? It seems cutting edge, highly educated, and very progressive (in a good way) compared to Mississippi, Alabama, and Arkansas.

I fricking hated those things in California, 99% of people did not follow simple bike laws and would run out into traffic or pedestrian walking areas. I almost got smoked riding a bicycle because the guy on the scooter never slowed down or looked coming from an alley. I saw three wrecks with people not knowing how to operate one
