Why can they not make it more comfortable for someone to stay overnight?

True. Those pillows they handout are the worst. They crinkle like they're stuffed with wrapping paper

Ask for pain meds? They got em. That should knock you out.

Keep bothering the nurses. Tell them the pain meds aren't working. You need something stronger

Not trying to be a dick, but most of the money that you would want to be used to provide better guest arrangements is funneled into making it a better hospital. That said, the furniture in rooms is miserable

Hope for the best for whoever your staying overnight for

Spent three months in the hospital this past fall. I kind of miss it now. I got used to being waited on day and night. I don't miss 4am blood work though.

Help me out here, I'm struggling to imagine a three month hospital stay that could inspire even a whiff of nostalgia. Severe burns requiring multiple skin grafts? Nope. Multiple trauma requiring several surgeries and extensive rehab? Nope. Stroke recovery? Nope. Guillain-Barré syndrome? Hell to the nope. (Though the odds are with me, I live in deathly fear of contracting this.)

Well, the first month was a coma. When I woke up I didn't have use of my arms or legs so it was nice to have people doing things for me while I recovered. Plus I was doped up so there's that.

Spent a week in the hospital a couple years ago. All I remember is I could have gone to Vegas with some of my boys and stayed in a suite for the price of that fricking room.

Well clearly you have a better outlook on life than I do. I'd go fricking insane if I was paralyzed

I'm typing this response as I lay on an extendable couch in a small hospital room (wife just had a c-section, our 2nd child). 2nd the you gotta bring your own stuff comments, especially pillows. I also work in a hospital. What ppl don't realize is that every piece of furniture or equipment that goes into a patient room has to be designed to get covered in any and every bodily fluid imaginable and be able to be cleaned afterward. And trust me they will all at one time or another be covered in vommit, piss, feces, blood, and others you never even thought of. That's why the pillows are disposable and therefore cheap etc.

It was only temporary. I have use of my arms back and can walk again with a walker. I should be good as new by summer.
Basically, my muscles just deteriorated during the coma. Still pretty freaky.

Not only that, but there seems to be an unwritten rule that the furniture has to cost 3-4 times what a normal piece of furniture would cost.

Hell, even mattresses for hospital beds are outrageously expensive. And don't get caught using mattresses that have tears in them. DHH or JCAHO will crucify you.

Yesterday was one week I've been home from a monthlong stay in the hospital. I was rather comfortable and well taken care of the whole time.
