Hospital administrators

I bought a couple of masks, some gloves, a bunch of food to fill my deep freeze, extra soap and detergent back the last week of January. Why didn't hospitals do the same. Just buy a few more ventilators and some masks whatnots. It would at least get the manufacturers cranked up 7 weeks ahead of time knowing they had orders to fill. Or did they do this? Maybe I'm just genius thanks OT for making me smarter

believe me they did, at least my client in Nola did. Don't know about the smaller hospitals or local critical access hosps. I do have a MD cousin that also sits on the board of her hospital. She said up until two weeks ago, there was a lot of arguing between the docs and admins about the severity of what's to come and how best to prepare for it.

1. How much do you think a Ventilator costs?
2. Do you really think adding 5-10 more Ventilators to your inventory would really make a huge difference if your staff and facilities are already running at overload?

If it still is like it was 2 years ago, a monthly boost in expenses without revenue could easily cost them their jobs. I worked with the idiots at what they called the Triad Hospital system (off-shoot of HCA). There is no acceptable explanation of why expenses go up and revenue does not, EVEN if there is. period. case closed. you're guilty.

So typical beauracracy? Or is there somewhere in the corporate charter that says they can only have 12 ventilators instead of 14. Or fed regulationsThere are roughly 5750 acute care if everyone ordered 2 more that is an additonal 11,500. Just seems logical. Hospitals need better management procedures.

I've already been on two conf calls today about how fast can an A/E/C team get certain closed hospitals in NOLA back open as acute care isolation units. LDH said they're ready to approve/license anything we give them as "grandfathered in" conditions.

How hard is it to make a ventilator?
It seems like a relatively simple device. If the full weight of the American industrial force organized to build new ones, why couldn't we have a million new ones in a month's time?

Duckhammer, has anyone talked about putting in requests through the state for HHS strategic reserve equipment...heard HHS secretary a couple of days ago and he said there were ventilators in the strategic reserve...among just about anything else needed for a hospital...

It would make a huge difference. Seems well worth the risk and easy to argue when there is a global pandemic unfolding. This was watching a freight train. Moving 2mph. I'd risk my job over it. Be easy to explain away in another job interview. Risk budget or human lives.

N95 masks do help. I have 3. I may donate them to the hospital or wear one while I go visit my elderly parents I'd like to see them before they get it.

I do have it all figured out. Do ventilators have a shelf life of 2 weeks. Put a couple in a closet. There are plenty of closets. Nurses and doctors know how to utilize each and everyone and all the positions to fit things in.
