You do realize that other patients need ventilators besides COVID-19 patients. Unfortunately you would need a warehouse full of ventilators to deal with this. Hopefully everyone learns from this and is prepared for another outbreak in the future.

Isn’t university hospital in New Orleans only 65% occupied? I remember when it was built there was a ton of bitching they overbuilt it.

I was on the A/E team that designed and built that & the new VA. We drew up what the client wanted. But hospitals are ALWAYS renovating to adapt to market trends and insurance reimbursable changes. Before it was finished, we "renovated" on paper about 30% of the design because CMS lowered the reimbursables for inpatient physical therapy and raised the rates for mental health.

Hospital admins will do anything to save as much $ as they possibly can bc margins are so tight in a lot of hospitals. A lot of times against what the physicians are advising. Witnessing those meetings is a sight to see.
