Yesterday we were on bikes and today we were on our kayaks before getting on the pontoon.

At least you’re out there doing something unlike some of these lazy fricks of the OT.

I haven’t run that trail in about 24 years, but back then, when it was pretty new, I flipped off the trail into a tree, split my helmet, and had to get my ear stitched back together. Back then it had technical elements. Overall it wasn’t nearly as hard as other trails we used to run out west, but it was fun.

Today it was the Hiawassee River in a little town called Murphy in NC. It was flooded and reminded me of LA as we paddled through the trees. We kayak all over WNC, GA, and some in TN mainly.

If you are looking for a nice middle ground, we used to go up to Land Between the Lakes at least once a year to run the trails there. It’s where Kentucky meets Tennessee. You can camp and bike all day. Pretty place, totally worth the trip.

Don’t feel bad at all Hooper Rd is no joke- been on MTBs since HS, and at the height of my road biking was knocking out 50 miles in a lick at 18mph with no issue.

I’m also the guy who showed up at a sprint Tri in DS with absolutely no training and finished middle of the pack.

When all this happened, both my wife and I were at the peak of our fitness levels, and she was winning her age group in every 5k she entered.

Soooo....back to Hooper Rd:

Bought my wife a sweet little women specific Trek a number of years ago, went out there with that and a new 29er for me. We’re gonna start doing trails- or so we think.

I fell a bunch and she got a panic attack on the part with the pavers that go along the big drop off- not sure how to better describe it. Walked the bikes back and never returned.

Was happy to get home and get on my dirtbike- I felt much safer on it.

Bravo to people who can really do it- it’s tough and takes balls.

To the people calling you a pussy- they are probably eating a stack of Chips Ahoy and think they are exercise badasses because they can do 30 minutes on the elliptical at the gym.
