I think they razed the Bottoms in Shreveport, the area was much improved last time I went through. Empty lots better than hoods.

Bocage will be the next major area to go bad.

Well they just single handedly blocked the College Dr project.

The plan now is to basically go back to the pre-90s configuration, but with another lane.

Neighborhoods with residents that will both go to govt meetings and can afford to meaningfully back a political opponent in the next election don't go bad.

Unless it's uptown NOLA liberals.

Seems like poor people on the Northshore should live in trailers.

Yeah, I’ve never heard bottoms plural until this thread. People keep typing it, it’s driving me crazy.

Brandywine condominiums. Had a friend who lived there in the late 80s. It was a very nice place.

Well for now - then metro council will have a special meeting without much announcement and they’ll vote for what they want

Guess they finally ran out of better neighborhoods to ruin.

Some do.

However, a trailer of two on a lot is radically different than 100 units in an apartment complex that eventually will turn into Section 8 (and bring the crime that seems to almost always be associated with it).

Look to the West Bank for the blueprint for decline.

Oh, I agree and I've seen it. Apartment complexes are a fricking scourge. West St. Tammany at least kept that particular menace at bay for many years. It's unfortunate if that's changed.

Isn’t the problem with The Bottoms (at least real estate wise) that the houses are too far gone to be repaired, but demo’ing one will cost 6 figures due to ACM and LBP abatement?

Someone in a thread about St. Tammany said we tax ourselves to death. Higher taxes keeps out much of the riff raff. Taxes aren't my concern, quality of life is. As such, here is a list of concerns and suggestions:

Priority #1 - NO MORE apartments-Period. This will be tough as some of the people making money off if these are from St. Paul. You know these people so it will mean alienating friends. Do you have the balls to put Covington first?

#2- trailer parks are out.

In short...my concerns match yours.

There's been talk about gentrifying the area in between LSU and downtown (the Bottoms) for years but it's still the same old shithole.

The fact that this hasn’t happened yet truly dumbfounds me. What a waste of prime real estate.

St. Paul's School is connected with building apartments somehow? Weird.
