It's easy to poke fun and laugh at that kind of life, but my takeaway is that it's just a sad existence.

That shite is like 1/4 mile from the north gates of campus too. Granted, it's been that way for a very long time.

but it doesn't have to be. They can be dirt poor and still have some dignity and be law abiding citizens. Plenty of dirt poor people comport themselves in a dignified, civilized manner. Start by cleaning yourself up. then clean up your own home. Than quit/don't embrace the savagery and inhumanity of the thug lifestyle.
We could talk about perhaps utilizing the free education they've all been given to better themselves, but I'll settle for them just trying to clean themselves and their own homes up first.

I would always cut across Aster, to Highland Rd, to Thomas Delpit, then Louise St to the interstate after class during undergrad. It was always amazing to see grown arse men in their 30’s and 40’s hanging out with each other, shooting the shite all day midweek, outside of shitty houses. I always wondered what those people did for money. Realistically, the ghetto lifestyle is something they choose to live and they see nothing wrong with it.

Actions betray their words, however. At one point the shorter one with the neck tats smokes something that has to be blocked out. The shirtless dude is on house arrest and has to go home at the end of the video.
Well meaning, friendly people with a sense of hope, sure. Not necessarily upstanding either.
Likely take too many drugs to get out of the ghetto. There are plenty of opportunities out there.
