Got the CR-V last year for the same reason. He's 2 months old now. It's a great vehicle. The little things are nice: The back doors open a full 90*. That's a godsend when trying to get his carseat in and out of it. Fuel mileage is tops. Reliability is tops. We got the EX which I would recommend.

My folks got a CRV last year. I drive it a lot and really like it. Plenty of power and good gas mileage.

Lots of Honda fans in this thread, and I won't disagree with them, but I have a lot of experience with both cars. My girlfriend has a CRV and I have an Escape.

Both vehicles are solid choices in my opinion. The Escape has a bit more cargo space and I like it's engine better. Both get good gas mileage. Both will live up to the rigors of carting around a family. When we go out of town, we usually take the Escape.

Honda makes very reliable vehicles. But I will tell you this about the Fords they've been making in the last five years or so: they are really, really good. They don't deserve the bad rep a lot of people give them from many years ago.

I can agree with this. I mean, I did buy a ton of Ford stock 4 years ago for this reason

Toyota Rav 4 is far superior to both. Get the V6 though. And AWD.

Definitely not this (or anything Mazda). Constant repairs, and many shops won't even bother working on them because they are a PITA. Honda is a sure thing and will hold resale value probably a little better than the Ford.

We owned a 2008 CR-V and loved it, but it was a bit small for us. I've owned a few Hondas in my day and have loved them. That said, I was blown away by how much Ford has stepped up their game. We just bought a '14 Explorer that blew the competition away (including the Honda Pilot.)

Just got a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe and love that damn thing. Has a trailer hitch heated seats leather interior blue link and many more features I'm learning about. It's safe reliable and getting 29 MPG. I like the safety features because I have a baby girl.

State the trim packages you are looking at. We just made this comparison and purchased a Ford after driving both back to back.

Ford has had a lot of issues with the new Escapes...I'd steer clear.

Honda if you want it to last.

I suppose the Ford is nice if you only want to keep it for 3-4 years.

I have a 2013 Escaspe and really like it. Plenty of cargo space, peppy engine and good mpg.

They recalled those issues, the rollout was sketchy but the main issues were ironed out. Its a great vehicle otherwise and either vehicle wouldn't be a bad choice.

The crv has had a couple recalls as well fwiw

Honda is known for reliability as I'm sure you know. Best thing to do is go out there and drive both vehicles and see which one the wife would like more. And then tell the salesman to keep quiet with the numbers game blah blah I'm helping you out here/taking a cut for you.

Coach, we were actually at Moss today. I actually liked the cargo space of the CR-V. We brought the stroller with us and it slid right in. The Escape is the better price of the two today, but we had to cram the stroller in. Wife likes the CR-V EX most I think. To everyone thank you for the replies.

Dude...the Escape was recalled 7 times since they released the redesign a little over a year ago. That's not good...it'd be enough for me to take my money elsewhere, at least for vehicles in that particular segment.

And the fact they were recalled tells you it's being solved that's all I'm saying. They sold 300,000 last year and it's not a bad vehicle. Wouldn't be a bad buy

We rented an escape in November for a trip to Tennessee and my wife and I both really liked it. Drove great and was very comfortable to ride in.

And all I'm saying is that 7 recalls is enough for me to shop elsewhere...no matter what brand or model it is. It's not like they were all small issues anyway, the largest recall which affected over half of the 300k they've sold, was for the head on the 1.6l motor which could overheat, crack, leak oil, and cause a fire. No bueno. I know it's fixed now, but they've had a lot of headaches with that vehicle so far, wouldn't surprise me if more were to come. Just my $0.02.
