The AC guy they sent out was so good we've used him for repairs that weren't covered under our warranty.

LOL. You do a/c work though? If this continues I'll need to hire someone directly.

So you pay $45 plus a $100 deductible for each incident? You could bank that money on your own and 1 Fix shite yourself or 2, get a Handyman to come out and make repairs.

Call Choice Home Warranty. I've had them for going on five years. They've repaired my upstairs AC unit twice, visitor's bathroom toilet once, and bought me a new dish washer as well. I've always (*knock on wood*) had great service from them.

My neighbor across the street uses American Home Shield and they got a new outside HVAC unit out of it.
It was only a Goodman (cheapest they could legally use?) but it's brand new and working.

buddy of mine had a similar experience with the a/c repair as well, middle of june and he had no a/c for a couple of weeks because they kept bungling it or just didn't want to fix the actual problem because it would take more time. I'm guessing they just use those warranty repair jobs for when things are slow

Goodman isn't a bad brand at all.

Good luck trying to sue them; those companies have ridiculous arbitration and venue clauses which basically protect them from any lawsuit

It takes so long because you're essentially paying a $75-$100 service fee to get a couple thousand $$$ worth of shite. They don't like those calls.

haven't been familiar with that industry for a while but they used to be like washers/dryers/refrigerators/dishwashers, no matter what the name on the outside, the innards were all made by 2 or 3 different manufacturers

Guess its just hit or miss.
Yes I have had both good and awful experience with home warranties but I stop getting them years ago because it simply didn't save money or time.

They have trouble getting paid from the warranty company per the last guy I dealt with..

That's pretty much how it is these days. Both of my units have been replaced with a brand called ICP (International Comfort Products). They've been owned by Carrier since 1999 and their units are all manufactured in Tennessee. That was 3 years ago and both are still running like a champ.

We had American Home Shield for about 5 years and just recently cancelled. We cancelled because of their rates going up. Their service was fantastic. Seriously. They replaced our AC condenser and evaporater (about $6k worth), hot water heater, dryer and microwave. It was well worth it just for the AC alone.
