I have a home warranty with Home Warranty of America (HWA) which is supposedly one of the larger and more reputable of the warranty companies. One of my a/c units needs a part replaced which is under the manufacturer's warranty since the unit is only 2 years old.

I filed the claim with HWA on Feb 13 and today it's still not fixed. The first a/c bum came out to my house, told me he would order the part and I never heard from him again and he wouldn't return my calls. HWA then assigned a different a/c bum a few weeks ago and he's giving me the same routine.

I understand the warranty company probably pays them less than their normal rates but don't sign up as a warranty vendor if you don't want the job.

I did file complaint with HWA but they don't seem to care since both a/c companies have ridiculously bad reputations on yelp, google, etc.

Edit to add my other pleasurable experience with HWA, how could I forget:
I forgot I had a garage door claim as well back in December. The wall button stopped working and I called HWA and specifically asked them if this would be an electrical claim or a garage door claim. They told me electrical and it wont be a problem so we filed the claim. Electrician came out, told me a garage door company has to handle it and left. I called HWA back who then assigned a garage door company who came out and told me there was no wire connected to the button and an electrician would need to handle. (Keep in mind the button worked fine a week before I called so there is certainly a wire connected to it). Thankfully I hadn't paid either loser the $100 deductible.

Those home warranties hire the worst of the worst in my experience. I had a similar experience at my old house.

both my parents and two of my siblings have had great experiences with their home warranties

granted, their issues were a oven and range and dishwasher, not an AC

sounds like it could just be these AC guys

Most competent contractors have enough business to keep them busy paying the normal hourly rate and they don't have to deal with the warranty company. Lowe's is the same way. They hire the worst contractors to install stuff items you buy, but typically you can get the same item installed by an independent contractor cheaper than you can through Lowe's.

this, plus of all of the techs/contractors, it seems like most of the HVAC guys are meth heads, very shady

Tried to get them to fix a dishwasher once. Ended up buying a new one and installing it myself as they couldn't even get a guy out to my house.

Massive scam. Last house I bought they offered a warranty and I told them to just give me the cash instead.

This is a first for me....I've NEVER had a home warranty that was worth more than the paper it was printed on.

I have American Home Shield and have had a pretty good experience with the quality of vendors they have sent out. Have had a few small issues with stuff like you have going on, but nothing major. Had the AC unit looked at and was very impressed with the company they sent out. Guess its just hit or miss.

Same only for garage door opener. Had a tech out the next morning after filing a ticket and it was fixed same day.

We have AHS too and have been pleased with them every time we've had to use them. Between the entire new A/C unit, dishwasher, pool pump and water heater they've replaced it's more than paid for itself at this point. If you don't like who they send out there just call them and tell them you want somebody else. I did that with a plumber they sent out to check a 2nd story drain leak. The 2nd guy the sent out was much better and we've actually used him for a few remodeling jobs since then. You have to remember that the warranty company works for YOU, not the other way around. They're not doing you a favor when you make a claim. They're doing their job.

Had to deal with home warranty a/c people about 20 years ago..

Had to use their people, Crescent Refrigeration..

They wound up putting a Janitrol unit in when the compressor went out on the old system. Techs didn't clear the lines well enough and the new compressor went out on the new system..

Owner's son comes out and tries to tell me my A/C is working fine, puts his thermal temp probe on a vent and tells me look the air is coming out at 74 degrees. Told him he better get his dad out here, are one of your tech, because you don't know shite...

Tech comes out and tells owners son the compressor is bad because it's screaming and he can hear it has a bad valve ..

They wound up changing the compressor... But I had to use that piece of shite Janitrol system and that shite Crescent refrigeration because of the home warranty people..

The biggest issue so far is having to wait on hold for 30+ minutes to speak with someone. We've had to call back and request a new vendor before and always got someone better in a timely manner.
