When the OP said "we're under siege daily" it's relevant. We're not under siege. We have a current homicide rate of 5.3/100k and as I said only about 14% of homicides are committed by strangers. So the odds of you getting killed by a stranger are insanely low. The media peddles in fear mongering: if you watch the news you'd think we live in a dystopian lawless wasteland when in fact we've never been safer as Americans.
What is on the rise is gun ownership and gun violence in the US. We own 120 guns per 100 people...2nd place in the world is 39/100. We are 12th in the world in Firearm related deaths at 19.51/100k in part due to having the 2nd highest rate of suicides by gun (we're 34th in overall suicide rates). Why do we need more guns than people? I'm all for gun ownership but stop acting like it's a divine right that americans arm themselves to the teeth.

America was built on the premise of how to defend yourself against a tyrannical government. You start putting a limit on # guns a citizen can legally own and watch what happens. You can't have it both ways.

Law enforcement officials say a suspect in a deadly home burglary in Brookhaven forced his 17-year-old girlfriend to drive him to Jackson before attempting to steal someone’s car, stealing a county truck, and carjacking a good Samaritan.
According to Chief Collins with Brookhaven Police Department, late Sunday night, Shawan “Dodie” Allen went to Crystal Springs to see his 17-year-old girlfriend and forced her to drive him to Jackson She was driving erratically and an off duty Copiah Co. agent spotted them. The car accelerated when he got behind them.
Allen then jumped out of the car and ran away. Next, Allen approached a home and demanded the keys to their car. The homeowner didn’t know where their keys were so Allen ran into the woods. Homeowner called police and search took place in the woods around the home. Crystal Springs Police Department, MHP, Brookhaven, dogs all helped with the search.
According to Collins, the search ended around 2 a.m. Copiah County Sheriff Harold Jones said Allen then stole a county truck just south of Crystal Springs on Highway 51 sometime overnight Sunday.

Adrian Smith was captured at the Jackson Airport, and Rankin County officials have him in custody. Another one of the suspects was just shot and killed about 30 minutes ago by a police officer. The officer was shot as well, but had his bulletproof vest on which saved his life.

ALL of those creeps would be guilty of Capital Murder in most states - just for being involved in a crime that resulted in a murder. The article seemed to say only one was charged with CM.
