WLBT-TV reported the victim was Zariah Antel Newton and that she and her boyfriend received an alert, presumably from the security camera system that captured the video police released, that someone was breaking into their home. When the pair arrest, the burglars were still inside the house.

Why is this paragraph so hard for me to follow?

Journalists are getting worse and worse. It’s become a headache to read news with all of the grammatical errors.

Unfortunately around this country, you have to ALWAYS do your diligence in minimizing your risk. Physical location certainly is one, but not the only. Keep your doors locked. Have gates/fences installed, good lighting, security system, cameras, many more

I know, I'm just offering advice to minimize. Unfortunately, we can't eliminate.
A culture change that starts with each individual family is the only way to eliminate crime like this

No shite...

Tree and a rope in town square or by the local Starbucks.
Do it on a Saturday where everybody could come watch.

Sell hotdogs and T-shirt’s.

As my grandfather used to say, stuff like this didn’t happen in the 1960s Mississippi... he was right.

I hope. I can only hope. It's the ONLY way. Programs, etc. won't do it. As long as you have a segment of society that wants to blame others for their plight, it won't happen.
Everyone MUST take pride of who you are, regardless of your situation, and try to make your situation better through good deeds, etc.
This must be instilled to the youth through sensible adults. Young people do not have the diligence to act responsibly at a young age. Wisdom takes experience and growth through life.
Take "Red's" in Shawshank redemption speech at his last parole hearing about wanting to tell his younger self to not commit the crime.

why do they keep looking in the fridge

For drug dealers, the freezer is a common place to store drugs. And maybe they were looking for some codeine based cough medicine in the refrigerator. Not saying the victim was involved in any drug activity but maybe it's just habit for the criminals.

That dog was like, what up. Couple years ago a reformed burglar called into WWL. He said if you get a dog for protection, get a small dog. He went on to say he kept treats in his pockets and bigger dogs would just take the treat and be cool. Small dogs would yap their heads off.

I have a lab and mini dachshund and can confirm this theory.

Did I read this right that the couple received an alert and went to the house? Why didn't they call the police first?
