Home school benefits?

Has anyone decided to pull their kids out of school and home school them instead. How good is a home school education? Is there a curriculum to follow?

You get out what you put in like most things in life.
The kids tend to lose a lot in the social and life skills department though.

That is a huge misconception. There are students who do not adapt socially or in the life the skill areas while attending public or private school. There are many ways for students to develop these skills while being home schooled.
As the other poster put it, it depends on the parent and how much they put in it. We have two sets of children in our extended family that have/were home schooled. One set of parents was great at it and the kids are leaders in all areas of their lives. The other set of parents, not so much. The designated teacher does not want to put the time into it. The kids are still well adjusted, just not as educated as they should be.
In summary, you get what you put into it, as with every other aspect of life. I would recommend the Abeka program.

You are asking a bunch of morons that know nothing about homeschooling, but have opinions that they heard from someone else. And, most of them were brought up in public schools.

Socialization practice. The children need reps working with other children and adults. They need practice encountering people who may have been taught the universe operates differently than they way they understand it.

Homeschooling does not work for everyone. Like most things, you and your children will get out of it what they put into it. There are hundreds or more of different curriculums, targeting different age groups. There are online studies or parent taught studies. You do not have to have a degree in education to teach. Resources are available to help you achieve your goals. My kids love it, excel in sports, play with all of the neighborhood kids and do everything any other kid does.

A lot of people will show up on this thread and tell you it is a bad education and that your kids will be weird. If your wife is a fairly intelligent individual and you and her are not weird then your kid will very likely have a better education and will actually be better socially adjusted than most public school kids. Find good and challenging curriculums and be intentional about getting your kids out with other kids and they will be fine. With the exception of the first year or two our kids have been homeschooled. They are able to socially move between all types of adults and kids. My son just tested several years ahead of his grade level. It's been great for our family. We have a little sibling bickering but by in large we are really close and enjoy having more time together.

Ok. Even as a homeschool dad I had to laughed at that. Sometimes my kids will make fun of other homeschool kids that fit the stereotype. But the weirdos are not the large segment of homeschoolers like they used to be.

I agree with you that you shouldn't speculate and just automatically assume that little Johnny being homeschooled means he's gonna be socially awkward with no questions asked. But to totally poo poo on the leg up with benefits of social development in going to school vs home school is just silly. It's so silly that it's almost not even debatable.
I would say a benefit of home school is your child probably will be healthier all year round because they won't pick up a cold or the flu or pink eye or whatever.

We know who homeschooled or got homeschooled
Homeschooling has been great for my family though it can be very trying on everyone. Most of the current content is religion based so that might influence you in a certain direction. With that said, it is somewhat easy to skip some of the religious content if you make an effort, if it isnt your thing.
I recommend finding a local homeschool group most cities, counties, and parishes have them to answer more specific questions you might have.

Can be very effective or a shitshow depending on the parent, child and curriculum. Protip: Have a backup plan in case of illness or other emergency. If the teacher gets sick or a tornado knocks down the school, the school system is able to adapt. You should have a plan too.
