Judging from your comments in this thread and the comments you made in the previous thread bitching about your wife. I'd say you probably have a short temper

No wonder she kept the debt from you. She was probably scared of your wrath.

$10K in credit card debt shouldn't effect your ability to obtain a home loan. Frankly, $10K in credit card debt simply isn't that much nowadays.

you should have gone through a mortgage officer before you looked at your first house for pre-approval.

Stop complaining, and figure out the root cause with the wife. The way you've posted in this thread it appears the issue could be you over controlling and overbearing. It sounds like she is afraid to tell you. While that doesn't make it right by her, it seems like you could work on this as a team.

You honestly may want to seek some 3rd party help here from a counselor or something. Not to go all Dave Ramsey on you, but she's basically been financially cheating on you. There's major trust issues lost. You need to curb that now, or it's only going to get worse for your marriage.

I agree with the others and I know you are very frustrated, but the way you talk about your wife of 5 years is not very wife ish. It's pretty degrading.

Maybe you are overbearing with finances and she feels like she can't get things she wants/ needs. You in the OP made it sound like you cannot get the house, yet she isn't in default. You get it below 30% and that credit card will be a positive not a negative.

If you say you have the money to pay it off anytime, then you probably have a high amount of available revolving credit, does $10k really affect you?

I have a friend like that. Dude just figured out credit a few years ago and now thinks he is the credit messiah.
His wife has no access to a bank account, credit cards or anything. He gives her an allowance. If she gets paid, he takes control of the money and puts it into an account with only his name on it. To be fair his wife is really bad with money and comes from PWT.
Just I can see her doing something like this. Though they already bought a house (in his name only)

Kind of telling that you refer to her as "this chick."

Have zero trust for her now though in any thing

Great way to invest in a long term relationship! I don't see anything bad that can happen.

My wife told me before we got married she had 60k in credit card debt from when her Mom opened credit cards in her name to open a catering business that failed. My FIL had been paying them for years until he got cancer. After my wife had been paying $1200 a month for 5 years I told her to try and work out a payment plan with the card companies. She tried and that didn't work so I told her to quite paying them. After a bunch of debt creditor calls we started to settle with them with no interest payments and lump sum payments. The lump sum payments we had to claim on our taxes. For example I think we made a $5000 payment on a card she 12k on and we had to claim 7k on taxes(not real sure what the numbers were since it has been a few years but it was less than 50%.). Bottom line is we saved a bunch of money going this route and yes she took a hit on credit but it was worth it. We also made sure we had good working vehicles before we decided to do this so we wouldn't get screwed on vechile purchases in the near future.

In the 11 years I have been with my wife I only my met my MIL once and my wife has only seen her that one time also. Mil is such a pos that she has never met any of the 4 grand kids ranging from 12 to 7 years old.

My friend's mom is the same way. Took out credit cards in all the children's names and also took all their student loan aid (Pell grants and loans).

Why didn't you put a clause that you'd get the money back if financing fell through?
