My ex did something similar and kept it hidden from me during and for two years after the divorce.
Used my information/credit to get joint cards

When I found out I should have pursued prosecution but I was just feeling like I had escaped and wanted to move on

that was a mistake the problem was bigger than I realized,
Im guessing its more than 10 K

still havent really recovered finacially

I assumed the account was delinquent and in collections.

An account in collection falls off your CR after 7.5 years. If you make any contact with the holder of the debt that clock resets.

If OPs wife has an active account with 10k that she managed to hide ... any advice about collections I stated is pointless.

The only advice is to adjust your budget to aggressively pay this down to at least 30% of available credit limit.

Did you let her explain herself? Maybe it was a mishap or a reason she didn't tell you. Don't react out of emotions.. Gather yourself and work it out like rational folk.

Here is my take, keep it all separate.

Terrible advice.

If you're going to keep everything separate, why get married?

Having a joint account promotes communication and accountability. Besides her money is his money and vice versa.

Yes that is worrisome and shows bad judgement however it is not the end of the world.

Learn from it and adjust accordingly

If he has the money, why wouldn't he just pay it off?

Just terrible fricking judgement

She said rather than paying it off over the years she wanted to "save money" instead as we were putting 1-2k away per pay month

While paying percentage rates on that debt

Most ironic thing you'll hear today? She is a few fricking classes away from her bachelors degree in finance.

frick...

unless the account is delinquent she's not affecting your credit rating in the least
this should have nothing to do with closing on the house
if you are just pissed she had the card my advice to you is to handle your business and move on with your wife and mother of your children

everyone's got shite they wish they didn't

She probably isn't even hot, shite actually i bet she is at the very least chunky.... you seem like the cuck to marry an unattractive female that no one else wants. That's why she doesn't give a single frick to be truthful with you.

It's the lying that would concern me. If she is lying about that I would imagine she's got some other shite going on.

Yeah paying minimum amounts

So she has $10k in debt that she is currently paying off? She is going to have to start paying more than minimum if she wants to get that debt knocked out sooner than later. Yall don't don't have a few extra thousand laying around, yall can slap on it.. to knock it down a little?

Unless she has 100k credit limit combined on all revolving accounts, a 10k debt is lowering the score.
