Tuition and fees at LSU were $660 a semester when I started in 1987. Four years later they were $1280. I thought that was outrageous.

Irony of course is that all the info they offer is instantly available on a device we all hold in our hands…for free! Biggest scam in the country.

Pretty much.

Although the device in their hands is slightly less likely to turn them into a blue-haired, barista with boogerhooks screaming about the patriarchy and Palestine

My daughter wanted to have a part time job in HS. I said her job was to practice for the SAT and find scholarships. I am proud to say that she graduated from UF last Spring with zero debt (and very little out of pocket from me), and she is currently in grad school on a fat assistantship

This has always been one of my favorite things to watch progressive voters do. Mock those that have jobs, then insinuate only the poorest of the poor in terms of job holders vote republican.

Yet, at the same time, you groomers want baristas to make $25hr, while screaming about a living wage.....knowing full well the LCD votes Democrat right along with you.

Yeah, let's keep making fun of those that go into trades and mock them. Progressives always see themselves as better, while simultaneously telling us many that vote right alongside with them are too stupid to do something as simple as get an ID.

tell her to stay away from pumpkin spice lattes and avocado toast.

only then will she be able to afford life in the real world.

The lower educated whites do indeed vote Republican. There's no denying that.

This is who pays for other kids to attend school. They select the school because of family or the experience. Select the school where you have the best chance of getting out in 4 years. And if you kid is a high performer, than they should get out in 3 using high school dual credit. Reduces costs by 25%.

You're responding to an AU grad. They will write their kids out of the will if they don't attend AU. It's a thing

Both of my kids were top in their high school class and received the max academic scholarship from Nicholls State. They both also receive TOPS, they live on campus in a dorm which is semi private. After the scholarships and TOPS we are still paying about $3200 per semester.

There are maybe 10 schools that are actually worth that, from a national perspective. No one in Orlando is going to be impressed you went to UC Davis over USF and 3 years after graduation the school you went to barely matters at all (for most fields)

As I told my son when he was about to graduate from Auburn and looking for a job, "Right now, companies will judge you based on their opinions of Auburn. After about 6 months of you working there, they will judge Auburn based on their opinion of you."

I remember $2600 for the semester at LSU, full time student.

I remember $1,020 for full semester tuition and fees in 1991.

Boy those government guaranteed loans immune from discharge really were a help!

This is the issue. Schools couldnt charge as much if there was a risk these kids could default on their loans

how does TOPS work with the quarter system? Does the student have to go all 4 quarters?

Do any other nearby states to Louisiana offer in state tuition to out of state students if you meet a certain academic standard?

Its not in-state tuition, but I know that Alabama and Ole Miss both have very generous automatic merit based scholarships if you meet certain GPA and ACT score criteria. If your kid has a 32 ACT, you're looking at automatic scholarship amount that would cover 80-90% of out-of-state tuition cost at either of those schools. Plus potentially other grants or competitive scholarship possibilities on top of the automatic merit based award.

Isn’t TOPS supposed to pay the tuition and you’re left with fees and housing?

It worked like that for the first few years, then housing prices increased dramatically because parents/students could afford more on rent. Now, they've also increased tuition exponentially.

That’s what it was last year. Tops covered tuition ($4k) and you were responsible for fees (2k). Per semester.

No idea how TOPS works on Tech's quarter system but I'm sure it's comparable to semesters.

Drop someone into the campus and you'd think you were at an SEC school, not Tech. It's rise is amazing since I graduated
