Yep, and combine that with the price of tickets now and it's $75+ for 2 people to go see a movie at most major cinemas.

I haven't been in years and don't think I'll be watching any new releases anytime soon at those prices.

Don’t go to movies often anymore but I refuse to pay the ridiculous prices they charge for popcorn and a cold drink.
When I was a kid and teenager popcorn and a Coke was part of the movie experience, was pretty cheap back then.

I'm going back to the mid 60's here when I was a teen and had a job paying $1.25 an hour. One of my favorite things to do was to take the bus downtown and hit the Big 4 theaters------Saenger, Lowes State, Joy and Orpheum.

Tickets were $1.25 or $1.50 and for $2 more I could get popcorn, a candy bar and soda to snack on watching the movie. Another big draw for me was the A/C in the summer months since the house we lived in only had a whole house fan, so hitting a movie and watching it 2 times got me out of the heat for 3-4 hours at a time.

Smaller, neighborhood theaters were even cheaper with tickets usually around $.50 to get in on Friday nights when Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon were hitting the beaches.

Why didn’t you eat before you went to the theater?

I bought a bottle of water, a medium popcorn, and a little popcorn seasoning for $10 at mine yesterday before Avatar. Didn’t even finish the popcorn though

It’s for the whole experience for the movies, don’t overthink it.

Oh, I did. During the summer months I would go to theaters at least 3-4 times a month to catch a movie. Between the big 4 theaters downtown, there was always something to go see and the neighborhood theaters like the NOLA on St. Claude near Nichols High School, the Arabi on St. Claude and Angela and the Napoleon and Prytania uptown, it was easy to catch different movies.

Dollar Tree sells the same candy. It's a time honored tradition to sneak treats in.

Took my grandson to the Esplanade 14 in Kenner Saturday afternoon. $64. Medium drinks and we split a popcorn.

I’m trying to remember the last time we even went to the movies. I’m pretty sure it was when the last Top Gun movie was released. How long ago was that? A year? It isn’t that I’m opposed to going to the movies. I actually love going. There just haven’t been any movies come out that I see as worth going to the movies to watch.

We go to the theater in Picayune on Tuesdays. 2 tickets, 2 large drinks & large popcorn combo for $25. You also get one free refill on each , although we never refill the popcorn and get the drink refills as we are leaving.

This is why you swing by Dollar General or Dollar Tree and buy your candy and sneak it in.

Years ago I had a boss who had worked in a movie theater when he was in college. He told me that the cinema makes zilch on tickets. All profits come from concessions.
