We can't respond to breakins because we're responding to breakins.

New Orleans really might be the worst possible place to be experimenting with all of these left-leaning crime initiatives. It is one thing to try these things in Seattle or Minneapolis. New Orleans, however, has a different breed of criminal, and probably at least 10 times the amount of people involved in a life of crime than most other cities, with just a few exceptions.
It is a shame that so many people will be victimized before hopefully, we go back to the tactics outlined in the 1994 crime bill. People forget that things were actually worse in New Orleans before that bill.

There are lots of stupid takes with how bad the city is, but this kind of mothbreather is is the worst.

I got downvoted into oblivion for saying this in a BR thread bc thieves in br sliced my soft top twice, broke 2 windows out of my hard top, so I just stopped keeping anything inside
I had a Jeep for 12 years. I don’t think I ever zipped the windows or locked the doors. I was young and broke and couldn’t afford a new top.
It’s frustrating for sure you can’t bring along YOUR possessions in YOUR car and it be perfectly normal.
Unfortunately you have to remove everything and leave your car unlocked and pray it’s only the thugs climbing in and out and not dirty mike and the boys turning it into a soup kitchen.

This all feels like it's coming to a very dangerous boiling point, sometime in the height of Carnival
Like baws & hoodlums firing at each other in the middle of a parade bad

It fails miserably there too.

Hmmmm....could that be because the security were in on the smash and grab? Nah, couldn't be!

I think it's a fair criticism.
New Orleans is far more worried about destroying their own tourism industry than they are about solving the massive spike in criminal activity.

Nah they are harassing tourists for having no masks.
Or just not showing up to work but collecting a paycheck. That was a big thing that came to light after all the post-Katrina audits.

The Chewbaccus Parade according to the NextDoor App had over 200 cars broken into according to an auto glass repair shop. NOPD said they had 90 reports from the Parade.
Last night was just as robust they hit cars on Octavia Street, Hurst Street, 15 or so cars at Newman, 30 plus on Burthe/Short St/Feret, 1400 block of Harmony, Napoleon & Perrier, etc. It is so bad that several of the auto glass repair shops have run out of supplies and are now backlogged 2 weeks.

Holy shite.
Dude WTF is going on in New Orleans?

The police not coming out for every property damage report bothers me less than a lot of the stories do. Ultimately, unless there is video, there’s not much an officer adds other than peace of mind. Unfortunately as thin as staffing is, and as bad as crime is, the online form makes much more sense than an officer interviewing 20 folks to collect the data.
That said, there are monumental problems within the force. This just isn’t the one to focus on.
