No I don't think it was. Probably the usual $250-$300 per team. But they also charge $6 per person at the gate.

Mr fusion... you sure that was a travel baseball team standing on the road begging for money?
those tourneys that give rings are just like the others - the rings are cheap just like the trophies...
heck some give out small wood bats as trophies.. if your kid didn't play or get one why does it matter to you?
and again.. if you think it's just baseball you are dead wrong.....
it's in every competitive youth endeavour.. from cheerleading to swimming.
but i guess grown men following a hs soph on twitter, instagram and facebook is healthy....
travel baseball grew and blossomed over baseball folks running from the coombahyah group hug movement that largely killed youth sports.
there is a lot wrong with travel baseball.. but it sure beats the alternatives.

well yeah when they call a tournament with 100 people there total between parents, players, and coaches a "World Series"
a lot of these youth teams get their pictures in the papers every year for doing something or other but when the kids get to high school ball the team still sucks...
and the LHSAA awarded a "state" championship for a "bracket" with 10 teams.....

My son is being looked at by travel ball groups,
By that do you mean the team is checking your financial records to make sure you can afford the privilege of him "making the team"?

if in Louisiana, there aren't many other options. Other options have disappeared.

Travel teams, tournaments, select squads and showcasing are what have largely killed traditional "league style" youth sports. Once upon a time, you had leagues with teams featuring 1-2 bad players, 8 or so average players and 1-2 stars. There was mostly balance in league play.
These days, travel teams have 8-10 stars on one team, who would ordinarily be spread out across several league teams. That leaves league teams with 0-1 stars, 10 or so average players and 3 or so bad ones. And guess what? That travel team with the 8-10 stars? They enter league play, too, and destroy everyone they face. Wheee.... league play is so much fun now.
Now, I'm not really going to bash travel ball too much because it does what it's designed to do: provide opportunity for advanced players. My only complaint about it... the only one... is that it draws too many resources (players, good coaches, parental energy, field availability) toward a small number of players... and traditional league play does suffer for it. We place too much emphasis these days on feeding the machine to develop "stars" and not enough on drawing kids away from their X-Boxes and onto a diamond.

Travel ball is the worst of the worst in terms of the quality of families that participate.

Unfortunately, this is very true.

There are some trashy arse travel ball folks that we run across.

I am not a fan of travel ball and the time, cost but what else is there?

What happened to the local rec leagues, do those not exist anymore?
Posted on 4/7/14 at 8:17 am to Fusaichi Pegasus
Yep, cousins team got rings for winning one of the Little League World Series tournaments in Alabama last year, over 100 teams participated.

If I felt my kid could have developed and prepared for HS baseball playing league ball this is what we would have done... but a ground ball to the first baseman at 14 should not be a triple.
Travel ball didn't kill leauges - parents killed leagues. Travel ball filled the void.
when YBBR died.....there was no choice but to play travel ball
rickety cricket - what competitive endeavors are you comparing travel ball and travel ball folks too?
oh wait.. you just like talking out of your arse anyway....

they exist... and in some small pockets they are pretty good.. but by and large it has become baby sitting and parental pacification.
my sons team just played a couple games vs a hs team in which the majority of their players came from one of the last pretty well run leagues still standing...

please explain your reasoning? It used to be a 20 game league season then, maybe an allstar team was selected to play a couple extra tournaments after the season.
