Your house is expected to be maintained so that it looks like every other tract home in the neighborhood.
Brought to you by the folks that MUST keep their peas separate from their potatoes and the meat on the plate. Absolutely no conjunction of plated items or the entire meal must be recooked/prepared.

My boss was just telling me he looked at a new house where you couldn't cut your own grass and had to use one of 3 landscape crews.

Literally couldn't cut your own lawn.

Many neighborhoods around here are not located in side city limits, thus there are no "codes".

You mean city and county regulations are different for municipalities?

Well when did this come about?

Leaving a tent in the yard for an extended time fricks with HOAs. Having someone sleeping in it is even better

Details....

Nothing major to tell only that I used to live in a DR Horton subdivision in Denham Springs and the HOA acted like it was White Oak Landing or the Country Club Of LA. It wasn't. Nobody did anything outlandish that wouldn't correct itself over time and none of what they harped on would have made a single difference in property values one way or the other. And the single biggest use of the money they collected was used to put liens on people's houses. That is what bothered me the most. 50% or more of the people who lived in the subdivision had trouble paying the yearly HOA fee. The subdivision was also devastated during the 2016 flood. Many people had to abandon their houses because they didnt have the money to fix them and the biggest concern the HOA had was liens. That is chicken shite behavior. I get having those standards when you are in an expensive neighborhood. That is expected. But these starter home neighborhoods are never going to be anything more than what they are. When we moved we wanted nothing more to do with HOAs.

I had an old lady on the HOA give me grief several years ago when I built a new house and they didn't like where I had my satellite dish (not a big ugly dish). The 18 inch dish was visible from the street. They sent letters, threatened to put a lien on my house and even hired a lawyer to sue me.

It ended up costing the HOA and I kept my dish where it was.
