Then use the equity to pay off debts and improve your financial situation?
it can be purchased and developed, which could drive up the cost of nearby homes, making them, in many cases, inaccessible to the people who have long been living here.

Wait, are you telling me that unpaid taxes, liens, and foreclosures shouldn’t result in people losing their homes?
Say it aint so, LOL.

Literally the same shite everywhere.
You are racist if you want to live in Ogden Park in Baton Rouge and push rents up. But if you leave for the suburbs, you are racist there too.
So just do whatever you want.

The majority of Johnston St could definitely use some cash influx. Evangeline could use the US Army to pave a path through and start over. But it looks like Lafayette is walking south and East.

In Baton Rouge blacks will move into white neighborhoods as soon as they can financially afford it. I am concerned about losing the “whiteness” of my area. Is there a term for that?

love taking the Thruway out of town because you can sit at a red light at 2pm on a weekday, stare right into the eyes of a 40 year old man sitting on his porch doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, and know that he believes in earnest that it's MY fault his house is falling down around him.

If you own your home, keep it up to date on taxes, then no one but the government can force you to sell.
So, pay your taxes, don't get foreclosed on, enjoy the benefits of increased property values.

Living in homes for generations = not paying on a mortgage. And they can't afford the small property tax bill?

Fair enough to look at the Black community and say "What culture?" But never forget that culture actually exists. Do you not think Europe has culture? They have buildings up today that were first created in the 1300s. If you don't think people trying to make a quick buck here in the US rather than thinking about the long term has a negative effect on the overall quality of life of the average American than you are wrong.

So my daily "drive at 5" then.

Point me to a building in upper lafayette that has any culture that you speak of and I'll buy you a steak at ruth chris.
And northgate mall doesn't count.

racist statement
why does the neighborhood have to be black?
Why can't it just be a neighborhood?
when we stop talking about race, we can maybe move forward in a society that isn't racist.

Historically black neighborhoods
Where was the sensitivity when forced busing and violence turned a lot of working class white neighborhoods into black neighborhoods?
Here’s a hint. ALL neighborhoods change over time. They cycle through periods of prosperity and decline, then get reinvented and start the process over again. Try to own your own home and take care of your property. That way when gentrification does occur, you can benefit from it.
It’s not racism. It’s just the reality of a dynamic city in a capitalist nation. Claiming one neighborhood is historically black is fine, but that isn’t going to guarantee that the neighborhood won’t become something else in the future. Housing built in the 1930s has naturally turned over ownership at least a few times by now as the owners grow old and die or move around.

The fear is if the properties in these neighborhoods are bought the long-standing history and culture will be lost.
Because when I'm in bad parts of town where I have to worry about getting robbed, I'm more concerned with the "history and culture" of the area than the cultcha.

Paying your taxes is inside their control. Not taking out loans you can't repay is inside their control.

I'm just making a statement about culture in general. This board seems to be very cynical about culture and always seems to relate it to the black community.
