The CPKC steam train "The Empress" will be in Shreveport at the old KCS yards on May 24, 2024. It will travel on the KCS from Shreveport to Kendale, Louisiana on May 25. The route will take it from Shreveport to Mansfield to Many to Deridder to Kendleton.

Where is Kendale? I've been all over LA and have never heard of that. And Google Maps hasn't either (took me to Kinder).

Do you know if it will be stopping in DeRidder? I would like to see it but didn't want to go all the way to Shreveport.

Thanks!

Pretty close to where Boeing is. Better keep a safe distance.

It’s not one of the scheduled stops. Choices this far south are Shreveport or Laredo, TX. Haha.

It’ll be passing through, DeRidder, though.

No stop until Kendleton, which I accidentally called "Kendale."

I've piloted that locomotive before. 2009 iirc, the last time it was in the US.

It's a lot louder in the cab than one would think.

Now that's cool ... very few people are on that list (operators of steam locomotives).

This is the cab. (Not my pic)

*The two diesels behind the steam engine actually do a lot of the work to reduce wear and tear on the water heater. The diesels are vintage as well being from the 50's.

I don't know. I certainly would THINK a massive old steam engine would be pretty fricking loud.

I really like the vintage paint scheme used on the diesels. There used to be a WAMX geep stored in Minden that used the same paint color scheme. It looks great.

How do they pick the crew for it with these type trips?
