Higher Education in Louisiana

List of all colleges in LA
By rights we should be some educated MF's. Forget raising taxes, a step in the right direction is 3/4 of these institutions need to be consolidated and outright eliminated. It's a scam and is literally insane to have so many schools.

Everyone gets educated in Louisiana and then they move out. I had a class with a girl from the north east who said it was cheaper for her to pay out of state fees than for her to go to school in her state. We win when it comes to the "affordable school" but the state has nothing to offer the educated. Texas will always offer more

Something like half of LSU grads move to Texas after graduating

I'd like to take this moment to thank the taxpayers for funding my college education through TOPS

I'm glad someone brought this up. Something fresh and new to discuss on the OT.

College is a scam these days if all you do is major in gender studies. I'd sooner hire someone who didn't finsh high school over one of those snowflakes.

If I’m not mistaken, a few years ago there was an idea to transition the HBCUs into private universities over the course of a couple of years. It would have made then more viable and self sustaining, but of course it never happened and we still have to prop up these shithole degree mills (with a 15% graduation rate hahaha) with our tax dollars.
Personally, I think they should just be shut down permanently starting tomorrow.

Louisiana has too many public universities for its population size. Close all schools except LSU, LA Tech, and UNO. Drive up admissions standards, cut stupid programs, and then call it a day

You’d keep UNO open, but close ULL, which is much bigger and further from LSU?

Just leaving a public school is New Orleans. I don’t care about ULL

Having a lot of schools isn’t the problem. As others have pointed out, the problem is that there aren’t many jobs for college grads coming out, so the state pays to educate us, then we leave out of necessity.
North Carolina has a ton of colleges for it’s size, but those folks can get jobs in state. There are a lot of tech jobs around Raleigh and banking jobs in Charlotte so they don’t have the brain-drain that LA has.

All of the largest LSU alumni associations are in Tx. It’s sad. TOPS should be a forgivable loan. People who take TOPS must graduate and work instate for 3-5 years. Then, you can move. I think that is the easiest and fairest way to save the TOPS program. Excuse me “progrum”

I’ll never understand TOPS. Instead of paying the fees upfront, why don’t they promise reimbursement for loans if you graduate, stay and work in-state. That way we don’t pay for people who move out of state or don’t get a degree.
