Not mine. Even in high school the expectation was that I would get a graduate or professional degree of some kind.

I didn't go to my college graduation. I wouldn't have gone to my HS graduation if my family hadn't forced me to.

I was there, worst graduation ceremony I've been at. I can only imagine the liberal arts graduation next door was even worse.

that's up for debate. my ethnic past is a weird one. my paternal grandmother and her family are from trinidad, but are portuguese and not of spanish histories. she was also a "white" person there. i've read online debates about that very issue and people get HEATED

and to clarify, my nuclear family wasn't freaking out about graduating high school. my country family was, though

Graduating high school is expected. I don't understand why people make such a big deal over it. Congrats on doing what every other member Is suppose to do.

Same here. They asked our parents to hold their applause until all students received their diploma.

And the parents did.

One for the graduates who have family members who know how to conduct themselves at these events. The other for the graduates with relatives who want to hoot and holler, blow airhorns, and otherwise make fools of themselves when Junior gets his name called - they get extra trashy points when their celebration spills over into the announcement of the next graduate's name.

Where have I heard this before?

As someone who grew up in a non-urban parish, I can assure you that the trash the OP is alluding to is just as likely to be white.

Apparently you've never been to a virtually all white dance recital.

"Way to go Heather!!"
"You dance Brittany"
"I love you Amber"

Nope. My mom wouldn't allow my sisters to do dance. She thought it was trashy. No dancing in parades or any of that nonsense.
