So if we want a symbol or image banned, we should react violently to anyone wearing it and then say we were incited to violence, using our own violence as the justification for said censorship. Doesn't that kind of incentivize violence against speech with which you disagree?

I don't think there should be an across the board blanket law. Each school should be able to enforce their own rules based on how they view decorum.
It's better than as you said "ban it all or allow it all"

But that will never exist, which is why there has to be some set of decorum rules implemented in certain institutions.
