Is this the most ideal high school in movie history. Everyone is like a model. You get cool futuristic tech to play around with in your philosophy class. Football is played on a trampoline (not a bad idea actually!) and everyone’s test scores are public which just seems kinda fair.

It’s a merging of subjects but the heart of the topic is a universal question so it belongs on here

the first like 10 minutes of the movie is in high school. The rest of the movie, not so much.

That is like saying Wizard of Oz is the ideal farmhouse movie.

The whole film was satirizing the slow acceptance of fascism by the main characters. The high school was their introduction to the facist rhetoric. It's funny that most critics at the time didnt catch on. On a side note...that movie has aged extremely well.

Sure. I would love the opportunity to use firearms to eviscerate a population of murderous bugs. Like a real life game. All the fun of combat without the moral consequences. Do I get to frick that hot red head, too?

The contrast of the high school dance the night before and they reality that they're headed into a meat grinder the next morning was pretty thought provoking.

I’ve been told the book is much more philosophical and intellectual than the movie with its debates in citizenship and military service.

As a kid just wanted to see tits

While the movie is satirical, the book is deadly serious about its more.... unique ideologies. Most memorable part of the book is there is a very very very hardline that public whippings were a necessary part of society.

Also, the mobile infantry in the book.... were mobile infantry. They wore suits that gave them super human abilities. They threw nuke grenades and could jump miles at a time.
