Why are kids these days basing their success as a high school athlete on getting an opportunity to play college athletics?

It seems as if they are pushed to believing you are not successful unless you get offered a scholarship.

Just play the game and have fun. Learn life lessons. Make memories.

Rant over.

We did this to them. We (my generation of parents) pushed them play for scholarships because we are competitive and are living vicariously through them. It's our fault. We made them feel entitled and selfish.

I'm always a bit taken back when you have a kid that turns down an opportunity to go to a school like Vanderbilt or Rice to play baseball at Nicholls.

because they are tired of seeing post such as "I am so bless to get a offer to continue my athletic career at Southeastern State University" If you are gonna post about an offer, at least use proper grammar and get the name of the school correct. Shits borderline comical now.

Remember SC QB Jake Bentley?

He was held back in sixth grade. He would have graduated high school at 19 if he didn't decide to enroll at South Carolina after his junior year of HS.

My son has a friend whose parents basically sabotaged their son's grades so they would have a basis for holding him back.

I don't know. Why don't you ask all of the over zealous travel ball parents why this is.

I hate the idea of my son going to a shitty school just to play a sport. If you can’t play at a school that you’d go to otherwise...just give it up and go to school.

We’re driving 315 miles in the morning so my son can play ball. Ouch.
