The only way to bring levels down is to drain and start over or drain a bit at a time to dilute to desired level of PPM. Either way it’s gonna cost some water. I’d rather dilute.

If you have a multi port valve, turn to waste, shut off skimmer and pump pool down to desired level. If you don't have a multi port valve, you should gave a Backwash valve. Open it and pump your pool down.

You can probably add a little caustic soda, or potash or liquid drano to the pool and neutralize the CYA

The best way to correct your existing problem is to drain some of the existing water that has been over chlorinated and to add fresh water. Then, don't over chlorinate by adding too many tabs to the feeder. My pool is about 10,000 gallons. In the winter, I put 1 tab into the feeder at a time with the level set on 1. In summer, you want to increase this, depending upon the amount of water in your pool. As someone suggested, Trouble Free Pools is a great resource.

Tabs are fine used sparingly as a supplement. The problem is people overusing them, too many in too short a time. IMO.

To go from 300 ppm to 30 ppm, you need to replace 90% of the water with fresh to do it in one dilution. If you only throw out half the water each time, you'll replace about 150% of the water. If you do it by draining a quarter of the pool at a time, you'll replace the entire volume twice.
You might as well just start over.
