The parents of a 2-year-old boy who died in a hot car in Dothan were under the influence of marijuana and passed out when the toddler slipped out of the house and got trapped in the vehicle, police said Tuesday.

Melinda King, 38, and Robert King, 36, were arrested about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday on charges of manslaughter and first-degree marijuana possession, said Dothan police Capt. Will Benny.

They are being held at the Dothan City Jail and will be later transferred to the Houston County Jail with bond set at $45,000 apiece.

Their son, Castiel King, was able to get out of the family’s house on Lace Drive in the Prevatt Place subdivision about 3:30 p.m. Friday. He managed to get himself in the car but then could not get back out. He was discovered unresponsive at 7:15 p.m. and rushed to SouthEast Health where he was pronounced dead.

It's sad and shite like this happens daily.

Wondering why this particular instance warranted posting. That's all bud.

An accident shouldn't result in legal F
Charges.

If the parents worked night shofts, and the kid did this while they slept their normal sleep schedule, should they be charged?

Because a 2 year old kid died?

I mean, I think it's stupid to try and frame it like it was because of weed instead of bad parenting, but it's news bc a young kid lost his life.

I agree with this.

Manslaughter seems really steep for this instance.

Should be more along the lines of child neglect. Yes it turned out in death, but the cause itself didn't change.

Manslaughter is 20 years. Is it really that steep?

Their kid is dead and serving the maximum penalty (which they won’t) they’d still be out in their mid 50’s

They are guilty of falling asleep and not watching their kid.

Like I said, it turned out deadly but that doesn't change the cause.

It said he was found at 7:15. Dead for longer.

ETA and the parents didn’t find him. His brother did.

It's the MJ that charged them with manslaughter vs. neglect and is the reason this is on the news.

If the parents would have just both fallen asleep and the same thing happened, we wouldn't even be talking about this story.
