Pain pills, especially oxy, are just as bad and addictive

I was there for 6.5 years and never saw anyone who actually went to LSU do it. The people who flunked or dropped out did though

Pills were easily available, and that's what people did. I hung out with affluent, normal people mostly though

Shooting up once and getting addicted is more myth than anything else. For the most part drugs are misunderstood by most. Heroin by itself is relatively safe. It's all the bullshite that goes along with it that causes problems. Sharing needles, poor quality drugs, and combining it with other drugs (booze) that creates dangerous situations.

This is 100% truth

Most any drug is relatively safe when used by itself. Like you said people die when they start mixing shite or they were a recovering addict who was sober for a while then jumped back on it and started doing the same amount he was used to in the past

And drugs, especially pharmaceuticals, are extremely misunderstood. It's the main reason people end up doing the "hardcore" drugs IMO. People just assume a pill prescribed from their doc will be safe and nothing bad will come from it. When In reality some of those pills are just basically synthetic heroin.

Another part that plays a huge roll is the confusion or lack of knowledge about the actual drug in a pill compared to its brand name. Most people don't know that a Percocet, Roxie's, and OxyContin contain the same active drug, oxycodone. When you hear someone talking about popping a few percocets most people will react like "meh, not a big deal". When someone hears the word "OxyContin" or Roxie's they're like "oh damn, that dude must be a junkie". You pop 1 and a half Percocet 10mgs and you just took the same thing as the guy snorting a 15 mg roxy, only difference is yours contained Tylenol as well. Or someone who takes 4 Percocet 10s throughout the day just took the same as someone who popped a 40mg oxycontin.

I may or may not attend LSU and I may or may not hang around drug users, but I NEVER hear about heroin.

This was a very common theme when I was in rehab. Most of the people were just regular people that had jobs, kids, etc. and you'd never expect them to be addicted to anything. They got hurt, took meds, felt bad after stopping, and got more prescriptions because they actually thought they were still hurt. Their minds would tell them they were in pain to justify continuing the drug use, and the docs kept giving them meds.

You can't place the blame on any specific person really. How was the doc supposed to know they weren't hurting? Did the patients have an understanding of how addiction works? Pharmaceutical companies just provide effective pain meds, so it can't be their fault.

Only thing that can possibly prevent it is informing patients very well about what could happen, or decreasing dosages each day like steroid packs

The pharmaceutical pain meds are responsible for this. Opiates are more addictive than Coke, Crack, Alchohol, or anything else out there.

I have taken Opiate based pain killers several times in my life and at no time did I feel any type of addiction was forming. Smoked cigarettes for a week and became a five pack a day smoker. It took getting pneumonia and being hospitalized unable to breathe for a couple of weeks for me to quit smoking.

It's strange how different people react differently to what we put in our bodies.

Not a problem.

You have to be a retard to do heroin.

I have an idiot friend post something the other day about this touting that he found the body of someone that overdosed and trying to make some kind of correlation to the recent govener's race. I don't know, like I said, an idiot. It was more of a "look a me" post anyway.

I have no sympathy for those who deliberately put poison into their body and it's beyond me how people feel bad for the retards that do. It's not a problem because the more that die from it, the less stupid there is in the gene pool.

Merry Xmas.

ten years?
damn I thought I was on the slow train program

i socialized with regular rec drug users at Loyola 84-89 and heroin never once came up, not even in conversation. This was before ecstasy so it was weed, coke, acid and mushrooms. No pills, ever. I'm glad that shite wasn't around, coke did enough damage
