Here's what I don't understand about sitting during the anthem.

What exactly do these players think is going to happen? Police, government, no one in these positions is going to wake up and go, "Oh my god... Colin Kaepernick, a shitty back up QB is sitting during the anthem?! Well, we better discuss these issues and now!". The next time police deal with a criminal, the police aren't going to stop and go, "WOAH WOAH WOAH... Guys, do you want Kaepernick to sit during the anthem again?! Don't you dare shoot this criminal resisting arrest". So, can someone explain to me exactly what they're going to accomplish here? I mean besides it being water cooler talk, what's the end game here?

Why it needed another thread?

Yeah, me neither.

What Scruffy doesn't understand is why you people care what some semi-intelligent sports ball player does.

They're gonna get a lot of national attention.

I find it peculiar to protest a country that allows you the opportunity to make millions of dollars to play sports. No real contributions to society other than sports. Players need to shut up and play.

Yes, from news outlets and sports fans. Not the people they're trying to get attention from.

People are going to talk about it, and you are playing right into it. Bam. What do I win?

Well, the sport and money are irrelevant to what he's protesting, so there's that.

So they're going to get the attention of everyone in the country but not the people whose attention they are seeking. Huh. That makes sense. Not.

I'm picturing Peter Griffin here.

Cool, I'm not a politician, cop or anyone who can do anything about this "oppression". Are you?

It's weird that he didn't feel this strongly about it that season he was a superstar. Now that he's on his way out the of the league, it's time to brIng this up. If he feels so strongly about it, he should get out there, set some attainable goals, and help a cause. Not just say vague shite like, "There's oppressed people, I'm only gonna stand up when I've seen change."

This.

And these people don't realize that they are being huge hypocrites.

And they are validating the protest that offends them so much by giving it so much attention.

It's just morons arguing with morons really. But I guess that's most people.

People aren't talking about improving anything though, they're only talking about if Kaepernick's an a-hole or not.

no doubt. i think what a lot of minorities don't understand is that while the "white man" may or may not care about people of color, the "white man" doesn't care about white people either.

this is why we have such a pissed off middle class. catching it from both ends.

I am literally saying that the public and media will talk about this. Not sure why this is going over your head. I'm waiting for someone in a position that matters to talk about this. You know, like the police chief in SF who simply said, "it's disgusting and ignorant".

These are people who have been treated like royalty their whole lives acting like they understand what its like for the rest of us. What they have to think carries less value than the average person on the street. My favorite part of this by Kaepernick that he "vowed to continue his protest during the national anthem until "significant change" is made regarding racial oppression in the United States."

Yep, that's exactly what the powers that be were waiting on Colin. You called their bluff.
