I don't get it. Ruins the impact of yelling at them to get off the couch or any other commands.

You're exactly right.

This wasn't worth a mention.

We kind of inherited a cat named Pockets. My wife has tried in vain to rename her Polly Pocket. The first time we brought her to the vet and she told him that was the cat's name, he matter-of-factly said, "Yeah, that's not gonna work. No more than two syllables." Though I'm not convinced it really matters what you call a cat. They don't respond anyway.

Damn. I thought I had an original thought for once.

Nice to know vets agree, though.

I've heard (though I don't remember where) that the easiest names for pets to latch onto are two syllables, with the first being a long vowel sound and the second being a long e sound (think Daisy, Opie, Bluey, etc.).

Our neighborhood seems to have a rule that dogs must have 4-letter names. Some are two syllables, some one.

Our cat's name is Mrs Nesbit, said like buzz says it in toy story so it's 4 syllables but we call her Nessie. Both are great names.

Yea, cats and dogs especially respond and hear names that end in a long E sound much better. Partially to do with tone as well and the upper inflection required to say it. It’s also sharper for them and easier to pick up.

Sir Maxwell Marquis III

The name of my wife’s parents Boxer.

When he died, they had a framed photo of him hung above their fireplace. Very fricking strange.

They took it down at some point, but it must’ve been up there for 10 years or so.

I had a St. Bernard that I named Funderburke (after Ohio St legend Lawrwnce Funderburke). Always thought it was a great name for a Saint, sort of like Beethoven.
