why? They had school all year last year during two “surges”. Why would they treat this surge any different? Kids need to be in school.

Everyone on PT said this? Interesting.

The disdain the commies have for that board is awesome. Just because they can't stand the freedom to discuss topics and have free thought.

It's glorious. Bring up the PT board in a thread about elective hospital procedures. lol

Now JBE is starting to realize that there was a cost to all that federal money. Feds delivered a bunch of illegals to be distributed throughout Louisiana. But we're supposed to be concerned about Covid.

Screw you, Governor. You sold out your people for federal money. If borders don't matter, then Governors don't matter either.

This is what's so infuriating. Why the lack of transparency after 18 months into a global pandemic? Why have a hysterical woman on tv either say Get Vaxxed or Get Killed...those are your only 2 options. I just don't understand why they can't report data stratifying the exact things you're bringing up about natural antibodies etc. This goes against any plan of care action and transparency of the full picture that a doctor has traditionally taken an fiduciary oath to uphold, allowing patients to make the most informed decision/calculated risk.

This. What little respect I had left for doctors completely vanished during this charade. Sure, there are a lot of great one out there, but even most of them have cowered to this nonsense.

This case surge will top out in a couple weeks.

For pausing non urgent surgeries and outpatient procedures requiring an overnight stay?

People on this board are idiots.

"OLOL committing suicide" guy has now idea what he attemps to talk about. OLOL doesn't make less money treating Covid patients than they would a knee replacement.

What an idiot.

My sibling works at Memorial in LC. He told me yesterday that they have 1/4-1/3 of covid that they had at this time last year and that there are some that have been vaccinated.

He didn't give specific numbers.

Probably requiring oxygen but nothing beyond that yet.

Honest question: Couldn't this be done at home depending on O2 levels that they come in with?

You actually think that they don't take the patient's condition into account?

Who are you people?

No one has talked about patients being sent home from the ER w/ a dx of covid ... I'm merely wondering what they're doing aside from oxygen for patients with covid and if it's things that could technically be done at home.

The first quote was your assumption.

Your second quote an admission of ignorance.

“And 89% we're with the delta variant.”

I know this isn't the place to ask, but I'm going to anyway.
Is there a test to show if it is the Delta variant.
I normally see people get berated and called stupid for asking this question, especially on NextDoor!! Our NextDoor group is losing their ever living minds!!

The answer is yes but it's a bit more complicated.

A covid test is relatively easy but it won't tell the strain. To determine the variant, the have to perform genome analysis and that, due to the time and effort involved, is only done on a sample basis. This sample basis is usually unreliable when the results are mixed (alpha, beta, delta, bama). However, even though the samples are small, eventually the numbers are high enough to assign a percentage.

At this point, it's scientifically, and mathematically, assured that both the Delta variant and Bama are to Blame.

Science.

The problem is that it is difficult to prognosticate the clinical trajectory of COVID. Everyone is different. One patient may require 2-4L O2 and maintain acceptable O2 levels throughout their course.

However, some patients O2 requirements steadily(sometimes very quickly) ramp up far beyond what home O2 flow can provide. If these patients were at home they may not make it to the hospital alive. Some require heated high flow O2 100% @ 70L/min, Bipap, or even intubation.

Additionally, there are IV meds given on inpatient/infusion center basis eg decadron, remdesivir meant to blunt the course of the disease.
