Help when you can

I've got a couple up the road that are approaching the end of life.. The husband won't make it through this year.
His wife has been mowing the yard and trying to take care of their pool and struggling mightily.
I drove by yesterday and saw their zero turn sitting out in the middle of their 5 acre lot. I stopped to take a look and realized she had a broken belt. I went to town, got a new one and put it on without her realizing it.
I drove the mower back up to the house where she came out with tears in her eyes. While fighting them back, she asked what she owed me. No charge was my response.
She latched on to me and started bawling, telling me she couldn't do it anymore and they were moving to assisted living. She couldn't have been more grateful for that small neighborly gesture.
It only took me an hour and less than 50 bucks to make her day.
If you can help someone in need in your community, the little bit of time and money is absolutely worth the payoff.
Have a good weekend.

Good job baw.
Some older folks can be hard to help do to pride. It's gotta be tough admitting to yourself that you can't do all the shite you used to. The old man across the street from me is that way. Won't let any of the younger baws in the neighborhood help him.
Sounds like she had it handled other than the belt breaking. The OP noticed she needed help and got after it. I'm sure he'd help a lot more if he could but there's only so much we can do when working, dealing with kids, maintaining our own houses, etc. A lot of folks would have just rode by and not given it a second thought.

These little things are what’s missing in our communities and societies today. It’s the little things that make a difference.

Unfortunately these days helping out your fellow man can just as easily land you in trouble than not, so it happens less and less. But there are still good people out there that care.
Good on you for helping.
Good on you for helping.

In before “this didn’t happen”. Nice work! If only everyone acted this way, we’d be in a much better place.??

You mind coming to fix it?

Keep mowing her yard Baw, help them when you can make sure they aren’t exploited if you can insert yourself. If you go to the store swing by ask if it’s not to much of a burden for you. Humanity needs more baws like you.

Subtle I've got an extra $50 brag.

You're a good man.
Just talking to elderly people, showing them some attention and listening can make their day and, I think, prolong their life by keeping them connected.

Where I wish we were:

I love this sentiment and support it 110%! All of us who are able should challenge each other to get out and try to find a similar opportunity this month
Where I feel we actually are:

That’s the way to do it.

It doesn’t matter how small the gesture is. I was raised that if I had a bologna sandwich for lunch and someone else didn’t, was to give them half. If they were more hungry than you, give them the whole thing.
After Ida I cut a lot of trees. Helped people worse off than me. Fed a lot of folks. Helped fix fences, etc. For months.
My fence is still down and i can’t get one person to help me fix it. Oh well.

And all of the "things" have zero value to where we are all headed.
