I have a friend who is starting ophthalmology residency in New Orleans this July. She (no pics) says that she's going to be working at clinics all over New Orleans and even some outside of town. She wants to start scouting places to live, but has no idea where to start. The current residents in the program haven't been a lot of help so far. She will be making approximately 44k/year.

I know I'm going to get a lot of satirical "9th ward" type replies, but I'd appreciate any real advice. Here's a little something for your trouble:

Ok. No handbras. Will return with something more appropriate.

she can look to rent in Lakeview but will likely need a roommate. Lakeview is excellent and safe.

Anywhere along uptown St. Charles (but not too far off) or around Tulane is also a good spot.

She can search for apartments/condos in Lakeview, or various parts of Uptown. Or Metairie.

Uptown on the river side of St. Charles, between there and magazine st. from Jackson Ave. to the park are all good areas. Lakeview, Old Metairie or Mid-City in certain areas would be great spots as well. Warehouse district would be good too but it's a little pricey.

I'm sure there are more places than this and some of the places inside the red areas arent the best but its a decent start
