Recently upgraded from a 2013 f150 to a 2023 jeep grand Cherokee. First vehicle I’ve had since they started turning the entire cars into electronic nightmares. The f150 could be left parked for 2+ months and would start right up with no issues.

The jeep will last maybe 5 days without starting it before the battery is dead. Brought it to the dealership and got it tested. The battery came back fine and the guy told me there is no setting to turn off all the different electronics. If you don’t drive it at least every few days, the electronics will just drain your battery.

My question is, is this guy being serious? Because that seems wild to me. If true, then I’m assuming my best bet would be to disconnect my battery every time it’s gonna be parked for more than a few days. Surely there is another option that I am missing

That's not an upgrade....

BS. Something is draining your battery, and rather quickly. I'd bring it to a different dealership.

Think about how many cars on on a dealer's lot that sit for weeks without test drives. If the batteries were draining that quickly, over half the vehicles on the dealership lot would have dead batteries.

There is no way that can be right. That would be insanity

Well, it may be right then

Modern cars are always looking for an RF signal. This drains a slight bit of power. You lose more if you have 24/7 cameras. I have 24/7 cameras and my car went dead after five days. But i carry a pocket jumper in each car. So it's barely an inconvenience.

A car shouldn't drain after a couple of days. And you in theory should be able to park your car for a few weeks and it be ready to start when you get back.
Though I've heard a lot of examples of similar issues as yours.

My solution would be to get a solar trickle charger and leave it on the dash plugged into the cigarette lighter when parked.

It's a Jeep. They come from the factory with electrical issues.

The long, but readily accessible way is to pull half the fuses and see if it still persist.

If it doesn't then the issue lies with something you pulled. Put half of the fuses back. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

Eventually you will find out.

You can also monitor the draw as you pull each fuse to find your culprit.

There’s a “ dead” link fuse in your fuse box. It’s what they use to ship vehicles to avoid battery drain. If you park for a long time ( I’m thinking weeks). you may have to pull it or insert it. ( look it up ). Some vehicles pull more than others.

Never heard of such a thing. Something has to be wrong with the car.

So every time you take a week long vacation you will get back to the airport parking lot and have a dead battery?

No way that is right.

he's full of shite, there are two batteries on your Jeep though, one for cranking, more or less, and another for the start/stop feature, I had to replace that one on my wife's Jeep pretty early into its life but something else is draining, or not charging your battery

Sounds like a short. You can locate it with a Volt/amp meter by pulling fuses and checking for amp draw from each fuse.

If what that dumbass said was true, everybody who flew out of town for a few days would come home to a dead car in the parking lot.

Your dealers an idiot.

I think you might have a ground within your wiring. I can’t believe that a company would design a car that the battery would go dead if you didn’t run the vehicle every few days

I would take the battery out of the vehicle and bring it to autozone or similar place and have them test it , but make sure it is out of the vehicle, sounds like you have a weak cell if it is truly not starting after 5 days

Did jeep include roadside assistance with your purchase, if so I would call them everytime and make them jump it off, hopefully they will get tired of it and do something

Will look into the fuse possibility. My car sits in a parking lot for half of every month so this is a huge pain in the arse type of situation

with the new cars being very computerized comes the possibility of the occasional rogue electron, my wife went to start her Jeep up to go to work the other day and the battery didn't have enough power to turn the engine over, I charged it and did some trouble shooting, the timer that shuts of the dash and radio and a few other things wasn't shutting off after engine shut down and was draining the battery, resetting a fuse did the trick
