Stores are nice. Workers seem nice.

But holy cow the prices are insane. Worst than Winn Dixie. Even the sale prices seem high.

So what’s the angle here? How do y’all shop here and not spend double your food budget?

Publix in my area currently has BOGO free chicken breast. Nobody else does that kind of thing. I'll pay a little extra to not walk around trash.

I didn’t get the hype and people saying it’s better than H-E-B. Don’t get me wrong it’s better than my local krogers but it’s not better than H-E-B or Festival Foods.

Many are willing to pay the premium to access a register and leave efficiently.

I’ve only shopped there on vacay but don’t remember the prices being that much higher than my local grocery stores in BR or HEBs in TX

And second on the subs. Can’t even explain it but damn they’re good.

For years Calandro's had a sign reading:

WE DO NOT ACCEPT FOOD STAMPS

Need to get out my secret code book & decipher what that means...

I never found their prices to be crazy high. But in the end it’s like shopping at Dorignacs or Zuppardos. Good clean well stocked stores and a friendly staff.

Strange that you seem to think Winn Dixie is high priced as well.

What about Fiesta or Super Mercado?

This.

I don't do all my grocery shopping at Publix, but if it is a run for essentials, or just something particular, I go there every time. The extra cost is a cover charge.

My only beef with Publix is their refusal to carry large sizes of things. It would be nice to be able to buy the big bag of Community Coffe breakfast blend instead of two small bags, which most of the time I get BOGO.

If you’re in FL it’s basically your only choice. But I love Publix for the most part. I wish their seafood selection was better. I’m in a state surrounded by water and most Publix seafood is stuff shipped in from overseas.

Winn Dixie isn’t overpriced. He’s wrong again as usual.

HEB is not unionized. Kroger is, even in Texas, and Publix apparently is too. I worked through this exact scenario at LSU more than 20 years ago WRT labor prices, decreased shelf space to seem "classy" etc.

Your kids just want taco Tuesday. The grass fed beef at HEB is 5.99, and it's 7.99 at Kroger. But you justify that however you like. ETA: even better, you could order 20 pounds of ranch raise beef from a local provider an hour or two away at the same prices HEB charges. Not hard to find, but won't link, because that's clearly the most offensive thing I've done on TD.

Union + more taxes = you suck in comparison to an HEB.

And it's Fiesta.
