So glad you decided to keep Jetsam. You won’t be sorry. I have 3 Rat Terriers and I love them as much as my kids.

Bless your soul!! That is the epitome of all things, smart, cunning, and evil all wrapped up into one tiny package. Nothing smaller than a pitbull had better walk through your yard.

This joker has tried to fight a lab and a German Shepherd. He has no concept of weight class. But one thunderclap and he's under the couch for 6 hours

All the excitement. That good wholesome feeling that was coursing through me. Gone.

She said now she changed her mind and is keeping the dog.

I don’t know if I can even say yes the next time an opportunity will come up.
Maybe I don’t deserve to have a dog.

Ah man, that sucks. Keep her in mind and keep a check on her. Didn't you say she is elderly? Maybe the lady is the one you're "supposed" to help? And in the future, the pup may need you, too.

That aside, the feeling you felt was legitimate. That does mean you want/are ready for a pup. Don't just push that away due to the let down of missing out on this pup.

I wouldn’t call her elderly. Just older. And I am trying to be understanding because I’m sure it wasn’t easy for her either.

I just wish it never would have happened now. She shouldn’t have even played With the offer if she wasn’t ready for someone to accept.

Now it just makes it that much harder for me to be able to let something in. The ice grows a little thicker

Quit being a bitch and go get a shelter dog. All the reasons to keep this one still exist. The purpose of his existence in your life was to show the reasons for having a dog.

Sorry to heart it but maybe this was just motivation to adopt your own from a shelter?

I’m not “going to get” anything.
I’ve always said that when the time is right the universe will present me with the one that truly needs me and I’ll have no choice but to take him in.

But my rule is I can’t seek it out. It’s a fate thing

I'm sorry this one didn't work out. Hopefully she can provide him a great home...puppies are work.

But have you considered if maybe this was a sign that you're ready to adopt? Maybe this pup wasn't meant for you but that doesn't mean there isn't one out there that is.

Oh, come on, man. A fate thing? We’re sentient beings. We influence our fate.

There’s nothing like the love a dog gives its human. Go get a rescue, adult if possible, and watch that dog become the most loyal and sincere friend you could ever have.
