Why are blinds so damn expensive?? I'm looking at upwards of $4,000.00 for the 3 windows listed below.

"You get what you pay for" seems like bullshite to me because shades are not something you typically mess around with after install..they go up..they go down..I don't need the blind material hand-crafted by Tibetian monks using materials obtained from organic alpacas.

Blinds are not rocketships or formula 1 cars. They go up..they go down.

Ok, TL;DR, here's my dimensions..and questions:

1 giant blind or 1 blind for each window?

just need a basic blackout material, nothing fancy, so does the fabric really matter or just the color/design?

is it cheaper to hit a box home improvement store?

Dimensions: shade 133.5 x76 (if mounted outside windows) or 42x72 each (if each window gets a shade)

Here's a pic of what I'm looking to cover. its the 3 windows to the left in this picture.

I've always used blinds.com. But go online first and order a few samples. They will send a coupon with the samples. Then order and install.

ETA: You measure your own windows so there is no fricking it up. They do the calculations for the exact window and they label them as to which window they go on.

I think 1 large would look stupid.

I have wooden white blinds. With those windows i would go with a more natural brown as you have a lot of brown in the room. Got from local shop, not Home Depot. I bet you can find a good price on Amazon.

Have you considered curtains on top of the blinds? Maybe some blue curtains to offset the brown.

ETA: Very nice golden retriever

SWEET GEEBUS!! who quoted you that?

I just bought blinds for my livingroom and had to do 5 windows that are 36x84, hung them myself and only spent about 500...

windows are west-facing so we get massive sun in the afternoons. i was thinking a single blackout shade mounted just above/outside that only goes down in the afternoons would be the easiest to work with.

because of the trim, its more difficult to install hardware that looks correct on the edges of the windows themselves

the house came with wooden blinds that matched the windows but they were old and heavy and difficult to raise & put down so I pulled them off. i still have them though i was looking for something more elegant/simple just to block the afternoon sun.

all options are on the table at this point. my TOP feature has to be something we can easily raise and lower. other features are gravy at that point.

Personally i would go one on each window if doing blackout roller shades or blinds. I prefer blinds as you can tilt to allow some natural light vs none.

If you dont want complete blackout something like this may be better. This allows some light to still get through if you use the room in the day time.

I went to local shop, but this website looks like it has some options. If nothing else get a visual image of what you might like.

LINK

You can customize all the options (colors/blackout etc) and it gives you picture. Pretty cool.

they have some other colors like this too in bamboo that would be a cheap alternative to wood.

What blinds are you looking at that would cost $4,000 for those three windows? I don't believe wood blinds would be that much and faux wood would be even less.

Are you looking at high end Roman shades or something? Or custom made shutters? Even then I can't see it taking $4,000.
