Deafness and blindness are both on a spectrum and someone can be considered deaf blind but still have residual sensory for both.
It’s likely she could hear and see very, very little, but that little helps in mental development for language etc.

Could you imagine how hard it must be to be a youth growing up blind and deaf in today's age? Whenever they bump into a door frame or eat doog food instead of cereal, their parents walk up to them and spell out, "why couldn't you be more like Hellen Keller?" into the palm of their hand. It's sick.
