Death toll now up to 184 from 167 yesterday with 92 of those in NC. Helene is now the deadliest US hurricane since Katrina.

World Central Kitchen, run by Chef Jose Andres, is on the ground in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee providing water and hot meals.
They do amazing work in disaster areas all over the world. After several years, they know what they are doing and have many local partners.

Five full WCK tanker trucks of drinking water are on the way to families in Asheville, North Carolina, providing much needed relief after Hurricane Helene’s catastrophic impact on the Appalachian community.
The 6,200-gallon tankers of water have just left World Central Kitchen’s operational hub in Asheville—Bear's Smokehouse BBQ, owned and operated by Chef Jamie McDonald, a longtime chef partner of WCK who has cooked with us around the world following crises including in Poland, Morocco, and Türkiye.
The trucks are capable of making multiple trips to Asheville in a 24-hour period, providing up to 100,000 gallons a day. That’s more than one gallon of water per-day for each person living in the area. This water is a lifeline to Asheville and surrounding communities, which have been facing an acute water shortage for days, due to infrastructure damage.
***
To reach those stranded when roads and bridges were destroyed by Helene, WCK is using two helicopters to deliver food that is then carried by truck, ATV, or by foot to final destinations. These “last-mile” deliveries ensure we reach everyone who needs nourishment.

Aerial imagery of Helene's damage has been posted. This is the NOAA imagery done in map form. I don't know if, and kind of doubt, they will do the equivalent in NC/TN, as that is probably outside of their scope.

Haven't been to my home since Friday. Staying with family, hotels, Airbnb.
Had to send the wife and kids 4 hours away with family for them to be safe and have space.
I had to stay in the general area for work So I couldn't go with them.
While Upstate SC was not wiped off the map like Western NC. The power for literally the entire population of what is arguably the most thriving economy in the whole state has been down since Friday.
Grocery stores out of food, gas stations either out of gas or 30 minute lines.
No signs of getting power back where I live yet.
It's coming back on for some now mid week but we have been on the brink of people losing their shite and things breaking down. Desperate people do desperate things.

That's an extremely generous Starlink map. On the southern edge of NC it goes east halfway through Robeson County, that is basically Lumberton maybe 60 miles from the coast well out of any significant damages. Kudos.

Just got a text from Georgia Power. New ETA for my apartment's power to return is next Thursday.

FEMA says they are low on money to help victims.
Yet in 2024 they have spent $106 million and $38 million taxpayer dollars on housing assistance for illegal aliens in the United States.
This administration is absolutely disgusting in every imaginable shape, form and fashion.

My wife was scrolling through a facebook page dedicated to missing people in Asheville. She said many of the missing were homeless people (families and friends were searching for them and noted they were homeless). Asheville has a very large population of “hippie” drifters that hang around downtown. Hopefully these folks will be located and just aren’t able to make contact due to not having phones, etc.

Wow, $750 to the victims of this. What the frick is that going to do? A week’s stay at a shitty Extended Stay Motel? Well she just guaranteed her loss in North Carolina and Georgia and should serve as a reminder to the people in western Pennsylvania and Hawaii what this administrations actual priorities are.
But the evil cunts down at the bottom of the OT home page are fine with this and think Ukrainian oligarchs and Nazi battalions are more important than their fellow citizens. frick all these people.

Their spokesperson today just shrugged and said they are out of cash.
