Power out till at least Friday they say, curfew set from 10 pm till 6am. Can't go a qtr mile without seeing 3 or 4 trees on lines. I know it's not as bad as many but it's the worst I've seen in this area. Last time I saw this level was a tornado in the 80s, and it was localized.

Updates from Stocking Mill Coffee:

Update.
So we have linked up and are at the point where we are going to be able to get 5 families food and temporary shelter for a month as well as have more to buy supplies when we get close and help people in the cleanup effort.
We are getting more DM’s and emails of potential people we can help and ask to keep sending them as we have the resources to help a few more people out.

A lot of people are thinking about heading up to help.
Been doing this for a while so here are some tips.
1) Stage in an area where you’re not taking up affected peoples space. Don’t get a hotel room a homeless person can use.
2) Be armed, I can’t tell you how many people I know have been robbed helping in disaster areas.
3) Don’t get fricked up or in a bad situation trying to help other people. There are already enough fricked up people in bad situations. Don’t travel there and become one.
4) Don’t drive by frustrated people working hard that have lost everything and start snapping pics for social media…grab a fricking shovel or chainsaw and help instead (can’t tell you how many retards do this)
5) Have a reliable vehicle…don’t drive Sanford and Son shite up there with fricked up tires.
6) Get supplies where you stage…everyone brings water and food and a lot of it goes unused. Diapers and fans are always something heavily needed in floods.

We have more addresses and contacts of people we will be helping.
If you’re in the area and need food or any help clearing your property shoot us a dm and we will find a way there.
We appreciate and love everyone helping and can’t thank the SMC family enough.
If you’d like to donate here is a link and we make sure it all goes directly into the hands of those that need it. No second parties.

Yep. This is in Augusta as well. Turns out our esteemed President hasn't signed an emergency declaration so FEMA can't provide assistance.

Both sides of the mountains are hammered. Most roads into North Carolina are washed out and cut off with the exception of 19-E on the Carter County, TN and Avery County, NC line.
Many folks worship, work, attend school, and much more on both sides of that border and they put up a big metal barricade last night.
It’s quicker for some folks, because of bridge and road outages, in Avery to get to Johnson City or Elizabethton for needed supplies as their town seat (Newland) is destroyed.
Been up in Roan Mountain, TN helping family the couple of days. So many folks in the mountain hollows of Roan, Hampton, Poga, Little Milligan are to themselves because bridges and driveways are completely gone, roads destroyed, no electric or cellular up that way for a month or longer at this point.
Poor Johnson County is basically isolated now because of bridge and road outages. Nobody talking about them.
Only one bridge remains over the Nolichuckey in Greene and/or Washington counties. Erwin as yall noted earlier is a disaster.
It’s damned bad up here. Pictures do not do it justice.
Edit: Also Damascus, VA — absolutely wiped. It’s a big Appalachian Trail town on the VA/TN border right down the blue ridge line. Other Southwest Virginia towns as well.
The main way between Tennessee and Boone, NC (321) will be closed for the foreseeable future. So many of the mountain roads to the ski resorts like Beech in NC are wiped out or blocked.

Samaritans Purse is organizing volunteer trips between now and 11/2. You can do day trips or overnight (min 3 days).
I’m local (Charlotte), so I’ve signed up for a day trip to Buncombe County (Asheville).
Just signed up this morning, so no date yet.
If you live in NC or are willing to travel, please consider it.
It’s a faith based org and I consider myself basically an atheist, but who cares. This org does good work and I want to help

Just got my power back this morning. I’m just west of Columbia SC.
Talked to a friend in Greenville SC. Still no power there and said it’s as bad as he’s ever seen it. Said a person up the street from him was killed by a tree splitting his house. Western NC is terrible but there are similar stories in western SC from I20 north…it seems the NW part of the state got hit particularly hard.

I'll look into it myself. What kind of help are they needing? Unless it's a specialized need, I can see a lot of people, with good intentions, getting in the way.

No matter what your politics are, how could you possibly wish this type of devastation on your neighbors?
I already sent an email to the university including the President, their media relations, and every member on their board with that post from one of their employees. Hopefully she will no longer be employed.

I’m originally from Spartanburg, SC. 95% of the county is still without power. Just started getting cell service back Saturday afternoon. A large oak fell on my parents house. Luckily mostly on the portion that is over their porch. I don’t know anyone from Spartanburg or Greenville that didn’t have a tree fall on a car, house or damage their yard.

My mind can't wrap around the idea of where to even start when trying to clean up that place

From my understanding it’ll be general debris cleanup, tarping, mud out type stuff. Teams of 15 with a leader. They do this a lot and seem pretty organized.
I’ll pass along any detail when/if they contact me.

I guess I was not the only one as her profile is no longer on the UK dept page it was on before. Also direct links to her contact info has been denied.

Does anyone know the conditions around/on Hurricane Lake (ironic I know) in the Cashiers/Highlands area of NC? Some old acquaintances of my mom retired to a cabin on the lake up there.

Last thing I want to do is get in the way of anybody or try to get somewhere inaccessible. Is there some sort of rendezvous point where supplies are being brought in and then sent out to the harder to access areas? I assume guys like the Cajun navy will run out of supplies. Someone like me could meet to reload them so they don’t have to go all the way out somewhere to find stores that are open/stocked up.
Not sure if you have Facebook but The Commons in Chattanooga is collecting donations everyday through Friday 7-7
We will not arrive until next Monday so I’m still looking for places to drop off supplies

I'm in Gainesville, FL. Just got internet back up but that was because Cox customer service screwed up.
Before midnight Friday morning things popped off here. Not much rain but a lot of wind. Power out by midnight. I go to the gym really early in the morning (2:30am). Gym is about 3mi away, so I decided to go and see if things were good there. Left home and there wasn't a single light from my place to the gym. No houses, business, traffic lights, street lights etc. Total darkness. Gym dark. Drove around a lot of the city. Some areas were not affected. My area was completely dark. It's weird driving around in the dark when traffic lights are out. Stopped once to move a big limb out of the road.
Once the sun came up, naturally there were thousands of people that had no clue how to deal with traffic lights being out.
Utility people were already out before the storm passed through. Same with street cleaners and Asplundh trucks came out at sunrise to help with debris removal. About half the county lost power. Trees were down all over the place and limbs and branches littered the roads.
By around noon, utility people and street cleaners made enormous progress. They were tremendous. They kept getting more and more people back up on the grid as the day went on.
Been through a lot of storms in Gainesville, and this was the worst in terms of wind, by far. Heard a few trees snap just outside my window. Ran into a guy in my neighborhood going around to check on his family nearby. He said our part of town seemed to get the worst of it.
